Monkeys? Penguins? This free zoo--situated smack dab in the middle of Lincoln Park--is a romantic place to take a date. During the winter months, the zoo stays open from 10am to 4:30pm, so make it daytime date if you choose this route--and make sure to save time for a little hot chocolate.
The Art Institute offers free admission on Thursday evenings from 5pm to 8pm, allowing you to plan a cultural date. Browse various wings and take in some romantic sculptures and paintings, creating great fodder for dinner conversation afterwards.
Kick your date off with a romantic evening under the stars, regardless of the weather outside. Every third Thursday of the month from 6pm to 10pm, Adler Planetarium hosts a 21-and-over event called Adler After Dark. $10 tickets get you access to the planetarium. There's also a cash bar and full cafe menu.
A movie date is usually a no-fail choice, especially when you add drinks to the mix. The Vic Theatre offers second and third-run movies for only $5 on the big screen, and they have three bars open throughout the showing (with drink specials for additional savings).
For the more action-packed date, head to this posh bowling alley in River North that offers drinks and sophisticated bites.
