What makes a perfect sandwich shop? It should be simple enough - fresh, quality ingredients, great bakery bread, friendly employees and getting your order right. If you ask them to hold the mayo, it's the least they can do. Bonus if the deli is conveniently located to home or work, or if they have creative sandwich options. After all, plain old turkey breast gets a bit old after the hundredth time...even if it is organic. Check these places out for something a little different. None of these are chains, and they are all head and shoulders above Subway, Potbelly or Cosi.

Hannah's

Really tasty fresh ingredients, and their pretzel bread has an authentic German flavor. The staff is always warm and friendly and they are so quick even when they get crowded! My favorite here is Sergio's Special, but they are all great. They have some great organic chocolates for sale too. Plus, their website is one of the best I've seen...detailed photos and nutritional information for each sandwich so take a look before you go.

If you're a DePaul student, you're probably here often. Lots of students work here and they're always fun and joking around. If you're feeling daring try the Pilgrim, a turkey sandwich with raisin herb stuffing, cranberry sauce, and mayo. Their Ghiradelli brownies are also a must.

They have the best environment for eating with friends - bustling and cozy. I love their huge menu, it allows you to really indulge or stick to something healthy. It's totally up to you. I love the Mermaid - a tuna salad sandwich - and the Dijon Chicken, which can be served hot or cold.
