Editorial Review for Whitecap Mountains – by Citysearch Editors

The Scene
Most Midwest ski areas descend from a single ridgeline, but Whitecap is situated on three separate peaks; its sprawling 36 runs face all four compass points, giving the area a distinct Western feel that no other resort in the region can match. Whitecap's terrain is uniquely punctuated by rocky outcroppings--one chairlift even goes right up a rock face--which further adds to its Western appeal.

The Slopes
While most runs fall into the intermediate-cruiser category, there's something to keep most everyone happy within the 17 miles of trails. Of Whitecap's three peaks--Thunderhead, Eagles Nest and Whitecap--Thunderhead has the most runs thanks to an open north face with mostly advanced terrain. Eagles Nest has advanced runs too, including a few steep, narrow chutes that drop through the trees. Whitecap is home to most of the easier runs.

I have had the opportunity to ski in the Alps, Colorado and all over the midwest...Whitecap, in my opinion is dollar for dollar the best value for midwest pow-pow! There is enough diversity in the trails that in the a.m. I can "earn my burn" and in the p.m. take it easy and enjoy life on the cruisers. There may not be as much vertical, but what there is will impress the most demanding skier looking for the midwest experience!!! TIPS UP!!!

Pros: short lift lines, wine shack on mountai, alot of area

This a wonderful resort with a lot to offer. I've spent many weekends up at Whitecap, and I've always had a great experience. I would recommend this resort to everyone, and I can definitely say that this resort is one of the best ski areas in the Midwest.
