There's always a good crop of just-barely second run movies playing here..
The Venue
All four theaters at the Village--which presents art house, foreign, midnight movies and mainstream releases--are equipped with Dolby surround sound. Theaters 1-3 hold about 200 patrons; the smallest, Theater 4, roughly 150. Free refills are offered on all sizes of soda and popcorn. No advance ticket sales. It's not much to look at but the seats are comfortable and film selection impeccable.
OLD SHOE. Village Theatre, so called because of its proximity to Sandburg Village, is a vintage cinema located in the building that once housed Germania Club. Sound system is adequate, seats are old, rooms small. No first-runs, but solid recent films at the right price. Four blocks north of the Division redline subway station, with five buse routes stopping at North and Clark: 11,22,36,72, and 73. Matinees on weekends only.
