Teena Marie Editorial Review

In Short
Teena Marie signed to Motown Records in the late '70s while barely out of her teens, thanks to an authoritative voice tailor-made for R&B dance-pop. Marie's numerous hits-including the smash "Lovergirl" and duets with her mentor Rick James--stand up well today, despite dated '80s production. Following a 10-year hiatus, Marie's 2004 "La Dona" album became the first release on the "Classics" imprint of Southern rap label, Cash Money Records.
