Editorial Review for American Theater Company – by Citysearch Staff
Background
Formerly known as American Blues Theater, it changed to today's appropriate-if-bland moniker because the intended reference to blue-collar life was confusing in a city filled with blues clubs. The space has a modified thrust stage, with seating for 137, spread around on risers.
Past Productions
ATC presents four shows a year, filling the summer and a few winter months with guest productions. Past productions of "Three Penny Opera" and "On the Waterfront" have kept true to the mission of this troupe, which is to present the lives of regular working folk. Early 2000's acclaimed production of David Mamet's "American Buffalo" featured artists from the original production, was extended twice and sold out almost all of the run.
