“First time there - food was excellent.”
“The staff was veeery friendly and the service was excellent (they are also very understanding if you cannot pronounce everything on the menu).”
“The service was good, not overwhelming.”
“The prices were very reasonable too!”
One of my new favorites!. After finding this place online we decided to try it out... boy I'm glad we did! The food was excellent! The lamb was very tender and the pasta tasted like it had just been made! The staff was veeery friendly and the service was excellent (they are also very understanding if you cannot pronounce everything on the menu). We had a reservation on a saturday night but from the looks of the place you really don't need one as just a couple... maybe as a large group... The waitress did forget our appatizer but that was no big deal as they had alot of large groups in there that night... It was more than made up for in the dinners, they came out fast and were just the right amount of food... The prices could also not be beat either... 2 dinners, glass of wine (from a vary ample wine list), and a dessert (which was excellent!) for under 50 bucks! After having an experience like this I would greratly reccommend Pegasus to anybody greek or not wanting to try some very good food at a very reasonable price! Anybody who is downtown and wants to try greek for the first time... go here, you will not be dissapointed!
Wonderful Restaurant!.
We had very high expections for this restaurant. I had promised my daughter that we would eat at the Pegasus on our next trip to Chicago. That was six years ago. In all she has waited for 10 years to eat there.
We could not have been more pleased with the food, the service and the atmosphere. It was worth the wait! It was my daughter's twenty fifth birthday, so we flew to Chicago mainly to eat at this restaurant and to do some shopping. The stakes were high but they passed on all accounts. The prices were very reasonable too! We both recommend the lamb. It melts in your mouth! We will come back to this restaurant and recommend it to anyone going to Chicago.
Poor vegetarian options, service.
This restaurant is not a good choice for vegetarians. The menu does not always indicate that an entree contains meat. More annoyingly, even when asked, the wait staff may not tell you, either. Before ordering an entree salad topped with stuffed grape leaves, I asked our waiter whether it contained meat or fish, to which he answered "no." However, the grape leaves were stuffed with meat. The waiter, rather than apologizing for the error, at first declined to do anything to remedy the situation, saying only that the grape leaves were "traditional style."
After I asked a second time, the waiter agreed to replace the entree salad with a very small appetizer salad. Not much of a meal.
This Greektown spot is famous for its rooftop cafe and its wide selection of seafood specialties..
The Scene
The light, airy dining room glows with murals of vivid blue seas and color-dotted white buildings. But, when the weather cooperates, Pegasus' main attraction is its rooftop patio, which can accommodate more than 150 diners. The patio's 30-item menu is limited to mezedakia (Greek appetizers), sandwiches and salads, but the eastward view of the city is a worthy compromise.
The Food
Fine lamb dishes, seafood and Greek classics like pastitsio, gyros, moussaka. Top meze choices include grilled octopus and soutzoukia--large oval-shaped meatballs spiced with cumin, garlic and rosemary. The dinner-sized gyro plate is best shared, as the quantity of grilled beef and lamb is huge. Arni yuvetsaki will please both meat- and pasta-lovers: A generous portion of lamb bites over rice-shaped pasta, served in a red sauce slightly sweetened by cinnamon and nutmeg. Signature seafood offerings include shrimp kabobs, whole snapper, Dover sole and pan-fried squid.
Excellent. Overall wonderful experience. Food was delicious. We had Mousaksas and Gyros. Both very tasty. Large portions which we didn't finish because we had to save room for the delicious baklava. The service was good, not overwhelming.
Friendly Authentic Greek. This in not a pretentious eatery. Immediately feel like they value your business and make you feel welcome. Great starters. Great seafood. Authentic. Effeicent, friendly service, come early if you want a lot of friendly talk, good good, comfortable atmosphere. The wait staff here is much friendlier and attentive that some of the other places here on South Halsted - Greektown.
unhappy. it was my first time and it will be my last. the food was average, nothing special- and the atmosphere was unpleasant. i felt rushed by my waiter( it was a busy night) .....nevertheless i felt most unwelcome.
Yummy. First time there - food was excellent. Appetizers were very good and entrees were generous. Clay pot lamb dish was slightly bland, but kabobs were just right! Overall a very good experience. We were seated by large window opened to let in warm night air - relaxing environment, but I enjoy the din of diners. Not a quite intimate place.
the Greek experience. This is the first 'real' greek restaurant I've eated at. The waiter was personable, funny, courteous and great. The restaurant was lively but a little loud (I've heard it's typical of a Greek setting). The food was flavorful and tasty, with a good mix of spices. I wanted to enjoy dinner on the rooftop but it was open to drinks and appetizers only. Overall, it was a very enjoyable dining experience.
