The Scene
Through an alley lined with palm fronds, down a dark staircase, the club-restaurant offers a sumptuous, gilded Gold Coast hideaway. Thick pillars throughout are painted with 21-karat gold, as is the artist-designed wallpaper. The dance floor is nice enough--a roomy, wood-paneled enclave--but the real attraction is the Yow Bar, named after Yow Low, the famous bartender from Trader Vic's.
The Draw
The dining crowd skews older than the usual club scenesters, while the line for Yow Bar (which snakes through the club) is full of flashy fashion plates. Classic French fare and upscale meat and potatoes define the food menu, the meat being braised duck (the house specialty, terrific and sweet) and the potatoes crisp pommes frites. Seasonal preparations of foie gras and lobster salad (served with tender fingerling potatoes) also shine, and the raspberry-chocolate terrine is breathtaking.

I went to the Drawing Room at Le Passage on Saturday, May 9 night with a group of friends and had the worst dining out experience of my life. I ordered a salad as a starter and much to my horror, found a very large black insect in it! I immediately called over my waiter to take it away, and he sent over the manager. They were extremely embarrassed, to say the least, and very apologetic, claiming that "it came that way from the farm." Frankly, I don't care where it came from! The kitchen should have caught it in the washing and preparation process...which only tells me they did not wash the greens prior to serving. All they did in compensation was to offer my meal and one bottle of wine for free. To top it off, service was ridiculously slow (our meal lasted 3.5 hours), and the over-priced servings were so small that we all went away hungry. All in all, a very disappointing experience. Worst ever in Chicago...or anywhere in the world I've been, quite frankly. Avoid at all costs!

Had a ton of fun here. From out of town and didn't realize Chicago had after hours bars. It was definitely well worth it!

I have no idea what all these people are talking about! I have been to Le Passage many times in the since the the new owners have taken over. They must be angry and disillusioned thinking that they should get everything for free! I know the type, I REALLY have worked in the industry for a long time! and by "Industry" I mean clubs from Detroit to Miami to New York to Chicago. I know the type, I worked at "Applebee's for 2 months as a "bartender" so I know everything about the "Industry". Get real, every time I have been in there they have been super professional and I don't know anyone there!!!!! It is always a party and always fun, maybe next time step down off your soap box and realize everything is not handed to you... Go back to Applebee's you whiney brats
