“But the prices at the restaurant were very reasonable for a place that clearly offers excellent cuisine and atmosphere.”
“This place is pretty tasty--I had chicken with a white corn pudding (which the waiter urged me to "be sure" I really wanted) and some bread pudding for dessert.”
“Funny thing, no one knew so we waited 20 minutes while the 2 overworked ladies serving us, took our orders, went down to the full bar and ordered our drinks.”
“Although we enjoyed our food, I must say we did not receive very good service.”
“To me a frequent Diner in the City "The Firehouse" is the very best restaurant in Chicago.”
“Overall, a great experience- we will be back next time we are in Chicago!”
“Upon entering the place there was no one at the door, we went to the bar for a drink and the bartender was nice, that is where the trouble began.”

“My husband and I were long time professional servers in Chicago at high end restaurants.”
A classic menu and the prettiest patio in the South Loop make this one of our favorites, especially for brunch.

Start with the lobster bisque, have the filet mignon and end w/ the chocolate moose. One of the best dinners I had in a long time.

It's not every day you chow down on upscale fare in an elegant room that just so happens to be a former fire station. Super-cool S Loop pick
Great steak house.
I just love the use of an old fire station and the nice decore. The food was great. My steak was tender
and delivered medium rare as requested. The mashed
potatoes were not hot enough though. I will return when
my budget allows.
Good times stop with food. Great Food! but it ends there. We waited over 30 min for our first round of drinks and were not asked to order our first course for over 1hr. Waiter (lets call him Lloyd from Entourage) was the worst i have ever had. Never came back to check on us ever. Took 10 minutes to get us the bill after we asked while he tended to tables around us. We found the root of the problem when we realized that our party of 6 automatically gave him a 20% tip. Bottom line- Great food but we will never go back.
Great Steakhouse. When I dined at The Firehouse Restaurant for the first time, I was really excited. I love buildings with history, as being an old firehouse, they kept many parts of the firehouse, I love the firepoles in the bar area, and the whole environment when you arrive. The food was amazing, my server was very nice, did not feel like I was rushed, kept on coming back in a timely manner to check if everything was okay. Have many types of food, very accommodating, especially since my friends a vegetarian and have peanut allergies. They made her a delicious dish, and she was able to enjoy herself, all I have to add is that it was a terrific experience and I revisted couple times after, keeps getting better, and would highly reccommend this place to anyone.
Bad Experience. My experience was very disappointing. For a restaurant with such a high priced menu and wine list, it definitely did not measure up. The food was only average and very overpriced for the quality. The cutlery was dirty. Most upsetting was the attempt to serve a lousy glass of white wine in place of a $15 glass of Sonoma-Cutrer 2007. Had I not been familiar with the wine, I would have been duped. The server came back with a lame excuse that the bartender poured the wrong thing--and by the way--"we are all out of Sonoma Cutrer." Why not come back and tell me that and then let me choose something else? Instead, they try and rip me off with what wasn't as good as a ‘2 buck chuck’ from Trader Joe's. They even tried to bill me $15 for the cheaper substitute. If they had simply comped the wine I wouldn’t even be writing this, but they seemed bent on ripping us off. I won’t ever be back and you should never go.
Chicago, LA New York, Boston, Look Out the Firehouse wins hands down..
To me a frequent Diner in the City "The Firehouse" is the very best restaurant in Chicago. Clean, warm, comfortable, wonderful wait staff, the food was scrumptious the atmosphere delightful. I am a total white linen and tablecloth kind of guy who loves attention, a good cocktail and a great meal. The others are good but boy am I glad I made to the Firehouse it is my new best restaurant in the city.
When I thought they turned an old fire station into a restaurant I was thinking cold, drafty, open, loud, smelly and I was cautious to try it. They did a very elegant and tasteful job building an interior inside the original structure. Still has a fire pole in the bar area and at least in one bathroom are the original sinks from 1905 where the rest of the bathroom is spacious and spotless.
There is an old rule, the in people go to the out places, the out people go to the in places. The firehouse is definitely an out place located in the south loop on Michigan Avenue in a very historic part of the city. The firehouse has just the right number of booths and tables and the sound dampening is awesome. 5 stars way to go Firehouse.
I'll never know.
I was excited to eat here, and made a Saturday night reservation for my birthday & also a friend's birthday two weeks in advance. I travel for work and was only planning to be in town on Saturday for the celebration.
Needless to say, I was shocked and stunned when the restaurant called and left me a voicemail two days before my reservation to cancel because they had booked a private party. I called back to make sure I understood that yes, in fact, they were cancelling a Saturday night in Chicago reservation on Thursday because, essentially, they had gotten a better offer. The gentleman with whom I spoke offered to get me a reservation at a second rate chain seafood restaurant in tourist town. Not acceptable.
I had to scramble to find an alternative...not an easy thing to do in Chicago for a Saturday night reservation when it is Thursday afternoon. I did not get into several of my choices. We finally ended up at Keefer's, which is a favorite and a tried and true choice of both myself and my dining companion. I recommend Keefer's highly and will be pleased to give them my business in future. Of course, I will never attempt to eat at Chicago Firehouse again.
Light my fire. What a great experience, food was great and the steaks were to die for. The staff was very well versed and the on there game. Try the patio it is fun. Come on a Friday the have a supper club theme with an older gentlemen playing an accordian.
Falling Star in South Loop. Having eaten at the firehouse a few times I want to share with al of you my last experience. I was amazed how fast a restaurant could go from good to horrible service. Upon entering the place there was no one at the door, we went to the bar for a drink and the bartender was nice, that is where the trouble began. The food quality was lacking with a flavorless soup, the bisque. The server did not come back to my table for 30 minutes, having asked for a manager to express my displeasure, the server told me that they had no managers tonight. I could talk to the host with any problems. WOW. Being in the industry I asked some of the servers what was going on and they replied that the owner is letting things slip. It's too bad, It used to be a place that I would take a guest for a great South Loop experience, now I'll drive past and enjoy Room21.
Wonderful Rehearsal Dinner Experience. Recently had my rehearsal dinner here and we couldn't have been more impressed! The staff was on top of every step from the begging stages of organizing everything, to the final moments of executing each detail. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking to plan a wonderful, romantic and delicious event. We will absolutely be going back for lunch or dinner when we're in the area again!
never again. after reading positive reviews for this restaurant we decided to have thanksgiving dinner here. what a mistake! we were seated 20 minutes late, and then completely rushed through our dinner. our table was directly under the air conditioning, which was on full blast. the waitress brought our check when we were only halfway through dinner, and then pushily returned to collect it before we had even made it to dessert. the food was OK, though nothing particularly special, the overall experience was so unpleasant, it was impossible to enjoy it. i've never had such a disappointing dining experience.
