Editorial Review for Deja Vu – by Jennifer Olvera
The Scene
Deco in design, this late-night hang features a wide-open black-and-white checked floor and moody blue lighting. Locals looking to casually sip cocktails head here early, but one of Lincoln Park's latest last calls ultimately brings in an already-stoked, singles-bent crowd looking to kick it up a notch. An upstairs space launched in mid-2003 and open on weekends has more of a lounge feel, with rooms full of curved-back couches.
The Draw
An easy location and late hours nightly are two of Deja Vu's biggest attractions; a congenial crowd (read: good-looking guys and gals hot to hook up) is another. A makeshift stage frequently hosts live music, but this mostly DJ-entertained establishment jams danceable tunes downstairs, and hip-hop and R&B upstairs. A full bar offers a fair number of taps and typical mixed concoctions, but regular specials build loyalty.

What happened to this place? What at one time was a laid-back little venue to see local bands and hang out late night has morphed into a monstrous amalgam of the bars to avoid in Gold Coast. Expensive drinks, velvet ropes, a "VIP" area (i.e. a room upstairs where the exact same stuff is happening as the downstairs), and so-so music are among the delights that await you in this club.
