Editorial Review for Big Bar – by Citysearch Editors
The Scene
This open-air, mezzanine-level space overlooking the Hyatt lobby boasts the longest free-standing bar on the continent and appropriately massive windows, which afford hard-to-beat views of the Chicago River and North Michigan Avenue. Crowds of downtown professionals and snazzy singles (besides hotel guests) pack the place after work weekdays.
The Draw
More than 1,400 beverage choices (no surprise). The "Big Vine" menu features coastal grape varieties from Oregon and Washington to New Zealand. Other offerings include champagnes, cognacs, whiskeys, extraordinary martinis and cigars; draft beers may be ordered in three sizes: big, bigger and biggest. Big also serves appetizers and desserts nightly. Music video lovers will no doubt love the various flat-screens throughout the space, as well as a large projection screen suspended in the atrium next to the bar.

Insider Tips
Know Before You GoLike many hotel bars, especially in prime downtown spots, this one charges a pretty penny for drinks--but don't forget that the beverages and views are big, adding extra bang for your buck.
The ExtrasPrivate parties can be hosted in a separate VIP area next to the dance floor that has its own flat-screen TV.

$70 for four regular sized drinks and an appetizer. Service was not that great, only two bartenders and two waitresses during happy hour. I didnt get to check out the other bars in the hotel, but I definately think this was the most upscale one. Lots of people stright from work
Pros: Good Food, Good Drinks
Cons: Very Pricey, Service was shoddy

We visit Chicago at least once a year and usually get out every night to explore what Chicago has to offer. We happened to stay at the Hyatt this last time and thought we would start out at the hotel bar. We had such a great time with our bartender, the view, and the people, that we stayed for the rest of the evening. This probably is not the place to go for dancing or live music, but we thought it was a nice way to spend an evening.
Pros: Good Prices, Nice bartenders, Good View
