Overview
It may officially be called the Ogilvie Transportation Center, but somehow North Western Station is the name that sticks to this terminal at Madison Street and Canal Street. Thanks to a commuter-friendly design, the station swiftly moves 40,000 daily commuters from the west, northwest and north suburbs to their downtown offices each day. Completed in 1987, the station is light, airy and sleek, and houses a number of shops and multitude of fast food eateries.
The Background
Built to replace the former Chicago and North Western Station demolished in 1984, North Western was designed by Helmut Jahn, who also designed the United Terminal at O'Hare International Airport and the James R. Thompson Center.
