In Short – Serves 50,000 Metra commuters every day. Union Station also connects Chicago to more than 500 North American destinations. Construction began in 1916 and was completed nine years later. The concourse building was torn down in 1969 and replaced by the office tower that stands there now. The Great Hall was spared, simply because developers had no immediate plans for the land.
Rather underwhelming
by peterbehle_citysearch at Citysearch
The main lobby is pretty impressive -- if just for its size. But nothing's there. The trains all leave from under the building next door (to the east) and even the ticket booths and food joints are across the street. This is no Grand Central Station -- that's for sure. Get off the train and go experience Chicago -- no need to hang around here.
- Pros: It's just, plain big
- Cons: Not much to see

Fun Fact:
You've probably seen the Great Hall in movies like "The Untouchables" and "My Best Friend's Wedding."
