Big Apple-based store offers an array of designer duds.. This super-luxurious Gold Coast behemoth moved to a sixth-floor space around the corner from its previous, smaller digs, bringing with it Chicago glitterati who dress even Fido in the finest of frocks. Stacks of neatly folded, whimsically colored sweaters and scallop-edged skirts hanging on industrial racks are as attention-grabbing as the setting; at every turn, mod wood details, gleaming glass partitions and funky metal racks further the fashion-forward motif. The shoe department is stocked with Bottega Veneta oxfords and toe-ring sandals from Ann Demeulemeester.

Great Shopping. I love this place! I love to shop on Halsted and having a Barney's in that area is the bonus! This is the greatest place. I never walk out without a bag!

who works here. I love Barneys in NYC but this one is horrible. I can't get anyone to help me and its a struggle to get someone to check me out if I find something. They have great items but the worst customer service.

The benchmark of fashion-conscious luxury department stores, high-end and fabulous as ever.. The Scene
Barney Pressman founded his upscale establishment, initially a men's retailer, with the money from his wife's pawned engagement ring in 1923. The atmosphere is fancy and fun, snooty and whimsical. Staff is well-dressed and attractive and seeks out confident-looking shoppers.

The Goods
Carrying both longstanding and cutting-edge brands, Barneys is a lab for new and emerging talents. Upscale accessories, shoes galore (like Hollywood's favorite Manolo Blahniks), and men's and women's clothing from designers like Donna Karan, Georgio Armani, Vivienne Tam and Helmut Lang make name-brand fanatics swoon. Barney's has special appeal with popular Seven and Earle jeans; the hot London-based Mahrashi label; celebrity-adored Kiehl's natural skin and hair products; and its newest endeavor, hot maternity fashions. Barneys also boasts an exclusive Vera Wang boutique (by appointment only). Don't miss Vera Wang trunk shows every spring and fall.

A Perenial Fave. In a city like Chicago where mens' fashion tends to be a bit on the dull and conservative side, Barneys NY stands out for their selection of shoes, accessories and sportswear (although their selection seems to have become more conservative recently sticking mainly with the big name designers). Like Neiman Marcus or Saks Fifth Ave., Barneys provides a decent selection of your standard-issue designer clothes (i.e., Helmut Lang, CoStume National, Prada Sport, Miu Miu, Marc Jacobs, Dolce & Gabanna). What sets it apart is the more avant-garde designer lines it carries (but as i mentioned earlier, the Chicago store seems to have reduced those in recent years) and its own Co-Op line, which provides well-designed and made basics at reasonable prices.
