“isnt going to a bar, about getting good service?”

“great place to hang out and drink their menu of martinis!”
“It's dark, the music is not too loud, prices are great, and the service was quick and friendly.”

Worst Martini bar in South Loop PT2. The tantrum from last year is gone. The new management have successfully made this place the worst lounge in south loop. I asked if there was a food menu, and the manager(not the bartender) gave me a rude answer and a sarcastic look as if I was stupid. I then paid for my "Completely overpriced martini," which I felt I could make a better martini than their bartender. Skip this place. There are so many better bar/lounges with a friendlier atmosphere.
Worst Martini Lounge in the South Loop.
The bartenders are horrible, drinks are overpriced, and seems the management and the staff a few years back that made this place rock are gone...
What a waste
Very Chill.
I was excited when this place first opened in my neighborhood (South Loop) because there aren't many trendy nightlife options around there, and I was a bit dissapointed when Tantrum wasn't the crazy nightlife scene I had envisioned it to be. However, I came to like how the place ended up being. It's a small cozy little place to grab a drink before you're headed somewhere or after you've come from someplace. Definitely don't expect this place to be a seen-and-be-seen spot- I guess that was never their intention.
Basically, Tantrum still retains a hip atmosphere without trying too hard. It's actually a nice, chill alternative to the sweaty, over-crowded bump n'grind lounges and clubs that most places turn out to be. I'm not a huge martini fan, but I tried a couple and they're pretty good.
Under new management. Under new management - socially intolerant and unable to equitably resolve minor conflicts. Will never return. Too bad too... this used to be one of my favorite martini bars in the south loop
Fantastic place to sit and have a drink. It's dark, the music is not too loud, prices are great, and the service was quick and friendly. It isn't a place to stay all night, but it's a great place to go before or after hitting the regular night spots. I really enjoy it evertime I go there.
Good way to start your evening.
Tantrum is a good choice when heading out for a night in Chicago.
The location can be a bit dicey. But plenty of street parking, no cover and strong drinks make this place a good choice. You can hit Tantrum for a few drinks before heading out to the clubs and more expensive places.
Great Hidden Gem. This place has amazing martini's and is one of the few places in Chicago where you can sit and have an amazing drink and actually talk to the people around you without a mass of bodies or thumping bass. Loved it!
Named for the method by which the owners finally got a liquor license, this South Loop bar engenders loyalty..
The Scene
Rather than the kicking and screaming you might expect, Tantrum is a place for the adult in you, offering a soft-glow refuge from the surrounding cold, hard city streets. A stylish and sprawling mahogany bar attracts after-work yuppies, while lavish couches provide pleasant conversational areas. Tantrum is banking on those pioneers looking to get more bang for their buck in the condo-booming area of South Loop, but there isn't much of a neighborhood to speak of yet. Although not a destination spot, Tantrum's gutsy arrival is sure to appeal to the growing number of residents and nearby businesspeople.
The Draw
The martini is the drink of choice. The black martini mixes Chambord and Absolut Kurant, not too sweet, while the signature Tantrum blends Stoli orange with orange juice, dangerously masking any hint of alcohol. Looking for a childhood treat? The butterscotch martini is a silky-smooth concoction complemented by a Werther's butterscotch candy. Yum.
couldnt believe it..... More than once I saw the bartender stop in the middle of making a drink and answer his cell phone. I even saw this once while he was in the middle of shaking a martini... isnt going to a bar, about getting good service? I was disappointed, otherwise, a great space and good drinks...
sub par martini. i had their "special" martini here. the editors of citysearch got this one wrong (although they're usually on). This place is not worth it at all. There are far better martinis to be found in Chicago
