In Short
Seating in this lively tapas cafe is tight but cozy, with cushioned banquettes, indirect lighting, and massive bifold windows that open to tables on the sidewalk during the spring and summer. The menu offers traditional Spanish tapas, along with some "twisted" (internationally inspired) plates. Spanish standouts include simple grilled calamari with lemon-herb vinaigrette and super-tender grilled beef smothered with a blue cheese crust. International hits are rich grilled salmon with tangy olive-mustard butter and portobello mushroom generously stuffed with fresh crab meat.

I love Twist. I always have an enjoyable experience here. This past weekend I went with 5 friends and we each ordered 2 tapas -- they were all tasty and flavorful. Some of my favorites are the dates, lobster ravioli, mac and cheese (YUM!), the goat cheese, jalapeno gnocchi, and the olives (I'm a big olive fan). The only reason I'm not giving Twist a full five starts is because I don't think their sangria is anything to write home about, and it seemed overpriced compared to other tapas restaurants I've been to. I also want to mention the restaurant is small and they don't take reservations, however they will take your phone number if you want to wander over to Redmonds for a drink while you wait. We were told our wait would be 30-45 minutes on a Saturday night (after a Cubs day game), but they called within 15 minutes. Even if the wait is longer, it's well worth it, in my opinion.

"A friend + I made this a destination spot for a Mon. night dinner. The atmosphere was cozy + had an interesting section where u could sit + view the street. The staff was friendly, though could have been slightly more attentive. Our beverages were not refilled as often as we would have liked. The food was good but the escargot + faun stole the show - extremely tasty. This a cafe version of a larger restaurant like Cafe Ba-ba-reeba. I can't wait to go back."

This is by far the best tapas in Chicago. I recommend the tilapia and bacon wrapped dates, but you won't be disappointed with anything on the menu. The staff is friendly and will always offer suggestions. The resturant is small and you'll probably wait, but it's well worth it.
