The Scene – Young professionals on the go scurry in and out of this teeny soup joint; some stay and chow at one of the half-dozen small tables, but most head home with bag in hand. The space is simple, with photographs by local artists decorating plain white walls. Attention is focused on the steaming black cauldrons of soup that beckon up front. – – The Food – Soupbox ladles out a dozen classic soups every day (six in the summer): split pea with ham, chicken noodle, beef stew, lobster bisque. Can't decide? Sample as many as you like. Friendly soup-pourers recommend…

Best cheap meal hands down

Come in with somewhere around five dollars (in cash) and leave very happy. This soup gallery offers free unlimited bread and a wide variety of soups (and salads) to meet any palate. Samples are free and remember to ask about combinations like potato and leak with broccoli and cheddar or clam chowder with lobster bisk. They are always creative, always friendly, and the atmosphere could not be more relaxing. I take all new comers to chicago to this restaurant and they all want to come back. I simply can not recommend this place highly enough. Even on the extremely rare occasion where I found something wrong with my soup they were extremely accommodating and fixed the problem immediately. Amazing service, amazing food, amazing prices, amazing location what else could you possibly need?
- Pros: price, taste, and service
- Cons: it's not 24 hours and I wish it was, ha.
Overrated Soup

After seeing all the great reviews I had to try the Soup Box. The soup was cold, they were out of the Italian bread. The soup tasted like canned Progresso soup.
- Pros: None
