Nothing overly innovative, but dependably fresh maki and sashimi keep me coming back. Summertime brings a nice outdoor seating area and late-night means karaoke!

Reliably great sushi. Have been going to Bob San for years and have to say that I am never disappointed! If I could live off the pan-fried scallop appetizer I certainly would--it's as addictive a dish as I've ever come across. The quality of the fish is always the freshest and the portions appropriate. I'd brought a business associate from Switzerland that travels the world over and seeks out the best sushi places and he went back to Bob San THREE TIMES during the week he spent in Chicago. Highly recommend to beginner & expert alike!

Great Chicago Sushi!. This was recommended to me by a friend who said it was the best in Chicago. I can now confirm his assessment! Walking in, you're greeted by very friendly staff and they are quite attentive. The atmosphere is great for a date. The food is just delicious! Best sushi I've had in Chicago! Highly recommended!

A Chicago Sushi Staple!. The first sushi dinner I ever had was at Bob San. This was 8 years ago and I have been coming back at least once a month ever since! Every single time I have eaten here the service and sushi quaility have never wavered....NEVER. As long as I live in Chicago I will be dining at Bob San!

Best sushi in Wicker Park!. I don't know who everyone else is encountering at this place but I have never had a bad experience with any of the Bob San staff. Everyone is always friendly and accomodating. I eat here or order carry out at least once a week. They have amazing sashimi- super fresh. Everything is always delicious and they allow me to customize my rolls the way I like them. I love this place and bring anyone I have in from out of town!

Great sushi, terrible service. My wife and I have dined at this restaurant multiple times. The sushi very good. However, the service isn't just poor, it's insulting. Upon a recent visit - our second visit within one week - a manager treated us very disrespectfully with regard to our bill. Long story short, the restaurant had agreed to save a bottle of Saki for us for one week. Upon asking that they continue to do so (as previously agreed to), the manager on duty treated us very rudely. An opportunity to build a positive relationship with a frequent guest turned into a disappointing evening, and a desire to never dine at Bob San again. Too bad.

Sushi was excellent. Hostess was rude.. We eat in at Bob San off and on because it is close by. Thursday night we decided to do take-out. We showed up at the designated time, in 20 minutes, and they hadn't even started the order. We had been told it would be a few minutes. I was asked to go outside and get out of the way of other customers coming in. I went outside, came back in after another 20 minutes and it still wasn't ready. I was told I could go sit on the sofa or at the bar if I wanted. I went back outside with my friends for another ten minutes, came back in and it still wasn't ready. One of the girls had to go home with her baby so the rest of us waited another ten or fifteen minutes before we got our food, so that makes 1 hour from the time we called the order in. The hostess never would make eye contact with us, put the food on the table and walked away. They did a wonderful job with the food but she was really rude and not apologetic at all. Yes, they were busy, but being a hostess is her job and she should be more accommodating and pleasant.

BEST SUSHI IN CHI. I am a sushi snob and Bob San is the hands down the best sushi in Chicago...if not the best restaurant in Chicago. It?s amazing!!! The fish is always fresh and the rolls are soooooooooo good and not ridiculously complicated with too much mayo and cream cheese. Bob (owner and chef) is the best, the atmosphere is great and the service in incredible. It?s my happy place!

Good food and nice staff. Fried scallops are the best. All of the traditional sushi items you've had over the years can be found on the menu. Sushi is fresh. Some little twists to standard sushi items that add a nice twist. Staff is very friendly and attentive. Great for large parties or the intimate dinner. Atmosphere can accomodate them all. Try the cold saki. It's great.

Comfortable, come-as-you-are sushi house draws hungry Wicker Parkers for reliably good Japanese fare.. The Scene
This mod Japanese restaurant is a casual meeting spot for sushi and sake lovers. Loft ceilings, exposed brick and stainless-steel accents give the space a cool warehouse feel. Diners wait comfortably at the crescent-shaped bar or at one of the corner couches up front.

The Food
Seaweed and hand rolls include everything from yellowtail to spicy tuna--standard sushi fare. For something different, try the light entrees, which include shu mai and asparagus beef--chewy teriyaki beef strips rolled around tender asparagus tips. Tempura and sashimi are offered a la carte, and there's a nice selection of fish and meat entrees and shellfish specials. Kani shu mai (stuffed with crab) comes moist, doughy and delicious. Standout rolls include the inside-out tempura dragon roll with fresh water eel, avocado and tobiko.
