Editorial Review for Otro Mas – by J.P. Anderson
The Scene
With its textured gold walls, burlap curtains and intricate, beaded lighting, the tiny space has a warm, Aztec feel. Patrons waiting to sit (no reservations) knock back margaritas at the small central bar; a few feet away, couples dine at tables spaced thisclosetogether. Pipe in sexy Latin music and turn lights down low, and these close quarters make for one comfortable neighborhood hangout.
The Food
Chef John Manion's hearty, zesty Nuevo Latino cuisine is a welcome addition to the Southport scene. Start with arepa, lightly breaded shrimp in a subtly spiced beurre blanc; or a chunky seviche of the day, served in an oversize martini glass. Shrimp and lobster bisque with sweet corn is skimpy on seafood. Entree standouts include a New York strip with a chipotle-confit butter kick, plus a tender, flavorful seared duck breast served with a fried dumpling of duck confit with a bone handle, which our waiter jokingly called a "duck dog." Whatever it is, it's delicious. Desserts are fabulous; don't miss the pistachio crême brûlée, served in a fudgy chocolate cup that you'll fight over.

We sat outside yesterday at Otro Mas and everything was wonderful! Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and provided us with great suggestions. Our favorite was the chorizo empanada! We'll definitely go back again!
Pros: Reasonably Priced, Outdoor Dining

I was not expecting such a great place before I walked in the door. The food was terrific and the service was wonderful.
