Good for what it is. This is not a fancy thai restaraunt, it's very casual and low priced. I appreciated the kind service and the relaxing environment. I had the ramen and it was average, There should have been more miso broth in it howeve,r the appetizers were good and so was the seaweed salad. I tried also the pad thai and liked it very much it had a hint of smokiness for some reason and it was surprisingly good. I would not say this place is terrible in any way and there were even left overs to take home. This is a place to just go to for a casual dining experience not an authentic excursion into the east. It is what it is.

Thai food, very weak for thai food..... I was asked to go to Penny's after Pride 2008, in which I didn't go. But you know we love our thai food. Unfortunately it was not as good as I would of hoped. I have been passing here for years and said , "One day I will go in", but it was weak for Thai food. Thier Pad thai had no flavor and the noodles were weak. Crab Rangon was ok. Beef Salad was pretty good, and the Rice Pudding was actually the best dessert. The texture was just right with a hint of coconut. Event the Thai Coffee was not as good as one would hope. Although I didn't have the best of experiences, I will try Penny's again because maybe I just missed something and a second chance would solidify what I want the experince to be. Let us see.

HORRIFC PAD THAI. I was looking forward to this place, but it was gross. I ordered the Pad Thai and spring rolls. Spring rolls were bland, and the Pad Thai was HORRIBLE. Gross and no flavor. The chicken looked like beef. And there were no peanuts, barely any eggs...ugh! I wanted yummy pad thai so bad. I called for a refund and they were very hesitant. We will see if it actually goes through.

Still Tops. I have seen these joints come and go and penny's stiil tops the list in this niche.

Stop ranting and go buy a bottle of kikkoman at the White Hen. Better yet order from the Chop Suey Buffet. Personally I enjoy the salsa that Penny always includes in the bag.

I agree Penny's is best enjoyed at Penny's. There is always going to be a trade-off if you have it delivered. Let's get away from our Plasma screens and Mac's and go enjoy life.

Oh How I Miss Penny's!. I am baffled by the bad reviews I'm reading here and I can't stay silent.

Penny's is hands down my favorite place to eat in Chicago, and this was my neighborhood Penny's until I moved away a couple years ago. I ate there as recently as two months ago and the food was as fabulous as I remember it.

No one does Lad Nar like Penny's! The Tom Kha Kai soup is amazing. The Red Curry rules. If you still have room, the flourless chocolate cake is irresistable. The prices can't be beat. My experience has been that the service is friendly and fast. I've never ordered take-out from Penny's because the atmosphere is so nice. Sit in! It's a good break from fast-paced Chicago. There's a train every three minutes. As far as I am concerned, Penny's is required Chicago dining.

Not giving it a third chance. I live near Penny's and have read good reviews about it in the past, so I thought I'd give it a try. The first attempt resulted in a very grumpy waiter who argued with me when I told him the "chicken" in my dish looked and tasted very much like beef. I got a new dry-chicken dish when he gruffly asked "so you want a new one or not?" I was not pleased. I thought I'd give them a second chance, and the service the second time around was great. However, I had asked to have my pad thai made spicy, and it was not. I left the restaurant unhappy yet again with the food, finishing less than half of it. I will not give Penny's another chance at messing up my dinner, and leaving a bad taste in my mouth for the rest of the night. The cheap price reflects the cheap food.

Horrible customer service, delivery and mediocre food. I ordered tonite for delivery - for the last 3 deliveries I have specifically asked for soy sauce. Tonite I made it quite clear to the order taker to please please add soy sauce to our order. He said he would make sure he did it himself. Sure enough - I got the order within the hour and there was NO soy sauce. I thought I was going to scream. I telephoned and they said they were very busy and I said I wanted my soy sauce. He told me it would be there in 20 minutes - I waited 30 minutes and no soy sauce. I called again and the girl told me that they were oh so busy and I would have to wait at least 45 minutes - I said what??? I was sooo mad - I told her I lived 1 1/2 blocks away and she said if I really lived that close I could come and pick it up myself. The food is cheap but mediocre at best - I will NEVER give them another penny of my money!!!

Very disappointing.... I've given Penny's a poor review before but obviously City Search didn't want it on here...I doubt this one will ever show up either. Anyway, Penny's offered by far the greasiest egg rolls that I have ever consumed. My noodle dish came complete with dried out chicken and was anything but wonderful. Oh well...
