Editorial Review for Chicago Lakefront Path – by Citysearch Editors

In Short
In addition to great views, this 18-mile path also provides concrete-locked residents with open space, fresh air and greener pastures. Some path areas are so choked in the summer with cyclists, skaters, runners, walkers and tourists that you'd swear you were on the Kennedy Expressway; other parts (typically the extreme north portion and anything south of McCormick Place) can seem deserted. Runners, particularly women, should be aware of the latter, especially at night.

Insider Tips

Know Before You Go

Be wary of in-line skaters and cyclists, who often weave in and out of traffic while passing walkers and joggers. Always stay to the right of the path, and be aware of those behind and in front of you.

The lakefront path is an extremely great attraction in that it serves as a workout and recreational venue. Additionally it is a great place for a romantic evening walk with that special someone! Finally- what a view!

The Lakefront bike path is one of the best things about Chicago. Of course it will be packed with people - it's one of the most beatiful urban shorelines I've ever seen (and I've seen alot). So, words of advice - enjoy the view but keep your eyes on the traffic around you - fellow bikers, runners, bladers and walkers. Follow common courtesy and we can all enjoy on of the best parts of living in Chicago.
