Talk about odd couples. He wanted to sell music, and she wanted to make soap. So the husband and wife team of James Marlon Magas and Bridgette Wilson created Weekend--part soap factory, part record shop. For such a tiny store (around 400 square feet), its following (mostly in music) is impressive, bringing in both local bedroom DJs and avant-garde knob twiddlers.
The Goods
The counter next to the front windows displays a small portion of Wilson's plant-based bars of Sparx Soap, made with essential oils derived from flowers and herbs. At 85 cents per ounce, an average-sized bar comes to $4. For his music section, Magas orders mainly imports of experimental techno, minimal house, electro and electronic punk, with the store split 75 percent vinyl, 25 percent CD. Look for underground labels like Ersatz Audio, International DJ Gigolos, Kitty-Yo and Klakson.

Weekend does a lot of mail ordering for locals and international customers, and offers event listings of upcoming shows.
Shipment Day:
Thursday and Fridays are new shipment days. Sometimes a small cluster of people gather before Weekend opens to be the first to get the new albums.
