The Scene – Set on a picturesque, tree-lined street, this convivial special-occasion spot draws families, couples and NU students with kids in tow. Hardwood floors, vintage French posters and soft music give the place a comfortably rustic vibe; friendly sure-fire service keeps meals moving smoothly. – – The Food – Warm roasted garlic with crusty bread is a good start, and the classic bistro menu follows through with delicious renditions of old French favorites. Tender, piping-hot escargots swim in parsley sauce in a miniature copper pot; lovely goat cheese terrine,…
Not the same place

We too were regular patrons of Jackies in the past. It did have a limted but dependable menu ( just like a French bistro), We were a little disapointed in the Steak Frite which the poive is now a thick creamy sauce nothing like the old one. The frites are just not the same. The beet salad was good, and the pheasent appetizer was good. But in general the food was just ok. The wine list is still good, but I hope they aren't just running through the inventory. The atmosphere has definitely changed and doesn't feel as neighborhood as it did before. It's a little sad.
- Pros: Wine list is still good
- Cons: Food is a little odd
Reminds me of Paris
by Adam M
Having lived in Paris, I am always in search of an authentic French meal and Jacky's hit the spot! I had steak frites (as it is my gauge of any French bistro's authenticity) and my wife had the duck. We topped off our meal with a bottle of Bordeaux from the extensive wine list. I found the food and ambiance to be in authentic Parisian style and the staff was both friendly and efficient. If you're looking for a little slice of Paris, check out Jacky's!
- Pros: Authentic French Cuisine
not the old Jacky's
by arlene posner
As evanston residents, jacky's bistro was one of our favorite places to spend a long, wonderful dinner with friends. Unfortunately, it has been taken over by the owner of Blind Faith ( a vegetarian restaurant). The menue was linited and the descriptions did not match the food. I ordered a lobster appetizer - came as a "corn cake" (probably frozen corn - definitely not fresh) with 2 small pieces of lobster, and no taste. My friend ordered a salad that could have come out of a bag from the grocery store. As an entree, i ordered the steak and frites - a standby at the old Jacky's - it was inedible - grizzle and fat throughout. When we got the attention of the 20 something blonde hostess, she said that that was the way it was served and that it was not the "old Jacky's". i asked that it be replaced and she replied that she couldn't promise that it would be any better - but offered to serve me the NY cut - at a much higher price, of course.
We will not be returning. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY - AS THE SNOTTY HOSTESS SAID - THIS IS NOT THE OLD RESTAURANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Pros: can't think of any
- Cons: rude hostess, bad food, limited menue
