“nice place, a little bit pricey.”
“The melding of flavors were amazing and the service was notable.”
“The portions are not that big though and the prices are high.”
“But, the pleasures of fine dining do not matter when you can't enjoy the delicate flavors because the service is too quick and stuffy and management will not rectify mistakes.”
Small Portions and Try Not to Have Fun. Friends and I went to this restaurant for the first time to catch up and have some good food. Unfortunately the portions were so small that we all had to get a snack on the way home. And on top of that, the Spring called my friend and asked him to consider "other dining options" in the future. I guess we were a little to vocal for this pretentious wanna-be restaurant
Great place.
We recently visiting Spring from Seattle and absolutely loved it. The experience of fine dining without the uncomfortableness of a stuffy fine makes this one heck of a dining establishment.
The food was excellent and the service was supreme. Overall, one of our new national favorites.
Spring-time!. Spring is definetely my favorite splurge restaurant in Chicago. Great Decor, attentive, friendly staff, and phenominal food (perfect portions.) try the chocolate dome for chocolate lovers!
Good food, Poor Value. Don't come here if you are hungry. For the $22 to $30 for an entree, you would assume that you would be served a decent portion of food, but you would be wrong.
Wonderful food, wonderful people. Dinner at the Spring bar two Fridays ago was simply the best meal I've had in a long time. Fantastic wine list and exquisite ingredients. Not much I can add to the many excellent marks Spring has received here, but I would like to compliment Adam and the rest of the bar crew for top flight service and for keeping my wife amused and tended to for over an hour in the empty house while her office-bound husband threatened to stand her up repeatedly. Spring reminds us that good service includes hospitality and genuineness.
delightful!. my friends and i thought spring was fantastic all around. the service was great - our server was very knowledgeable and perfect with timing and the maitre d' visited the table several times just to check on us. we loved the serene, simple setting in the pretty old bathhouse building. and the food was amazing: delicious american foie gras and perfectly cooked scallops with oxtail.
One of my favorites. One of my favorite restuarants! Must have a reservation for weekend dining, but well worth the effort.
Absolutely Amazing. Four of us had to wait even with a reservation, but they made up for it with two complimentary appetizers. The food was PHENOMENAL! It was filling, but not so much that we didn't order two desserts to try. A little pricey but if you appreciate amazing food then it's worth it!
Get real CHICAGO. Recently visited with my girlfriend on a trip from Paris. Lots of hype and all true. Menu interesting, service relaxed and effective. Chef has talent, but not enough to oversee certain details that could make his good and trendy restaurant something great and memorable. The fried stuff (tempura on the tempura lobster was not as good as it ought to be), fish a little dry and overcooked (Monkfish (why did you bread it, big boy?). Bread was no good (better on airplane- KLMeconomy class) Dessert was half great. You've misunderstood your own dessert. Pear tarte with roquefort ice cream should be roquefort ice cream (fun good surprising) with pear tarte (unprofessionally bad puffpastry). Wine was excellent, pricey- amateurish presentation by waitress who was cool and helpful otherwise. Good restaurant that could be great... maybe that is not the point. Raise the standard in Chicago- could be worldclass.
Simply a great restaurant..
I've read some of the other reviews complaining about the service. Those incidents are very unfortunate because I had an incredible experience at Spring. My family took me here for my birthday and Spring was very accomidating. My brother spilled hot tea on the table and there was a rush of servers to assist.
The food was spectacular and the ambience is very unique. McClain is doing some really interesting things with seafood - and as a seafoodphile, I fell in love with this place. Definitely on my top 5 list for Chicago restaurants. Can't wait to go back!
