What Our Expert Scouts Say

Ikram

This luxe shop looks like it was plucked from the pages of Vogue. Even though clothes and jewelry are mega-upscale, staff is down-to-earth.

If I closed my eyes, I would have thought I was in Paris.. The most amazing shop in the city, perhaps in the whole midwest, maybe even the USA.

It was as if I was transported to Paris for a brief moment in time.

The young, energetic staff, the clothes ( to die for) and the jewelry ( amazing beyond words) are worthy of a Vogue or W storyline. The cafe was truly a wonderful dining experience, with farm to table healthy eats and a wine list to match. If there were an Olympics for high fashion in Chi-town, Ikram would take home the gold.

A Truly Pleasant Experience. I recently visited this store during a business stopover in Chicago. I was recommended to visit the store by friends from Boston and Los Angeles who knew of the store from articles in fashion magazines. I was in search of something simple and fun for my wife...and I found EXACTLY what she wanted (or so she tells me...). The proprietor, Ikram, also got involved in the decision making...a true blessing for someone (me) who knows very little about clothes or what is hot this season. I must have spent an hour browsing all the racks with Ikram's team and we somehow narrowed down the choice to a beautiful and practical cocktail dress. I could have bought more but I think the next step is a return visit...with my wife. Great merchandise and a friendly and helpful staff. Kudos!

First Visit Will Also Be My Last!. I visited Ikram on Sat., 9/17, and was very disappointed. After a few minutes in the shop, there is absolutely no way I would spend a dime. Ikram carries a number of very exclusive labels, but the staff should be waiting tables. The store was almost empty, but never once was I greeted. The three saleswomen just stood around idly, copping a bored New York attitude but without the pretty faces to pull it off. When a customer asked about an item, the girl said in exasperation, "I don't know." When the same customer asked to see the item, the girl rolled her eyes, exhaled loudly, and reluctantly obliged. Ikram should prioritize customer service, especially in a neigborhood where there are numerous competitors. Although I just moved nearby, my first visit to Ikram will certainly be my last! It's just a second-rate New York pretender anyway.

An exclusive boutique with high-style clothes, shoes and accessories--for the people who can afford them.. The Scene
Enter this upscale Gold Coast boutique, and you'll have five sales clerks eager to wait on you. Savor the attention while taking in the elegant hardwood floors and beautiful merchandise bearing the names of prestigious international designers. A small shoe department, showing off stilettos and boots, attracts your attention. The dressing room, adorned with full-length mirrors and pure white carpet, calms any shopping anxiety.

The Goods
Leather, suede, sequins, feather boas, pashminas and eye-catching prints compel you to touch. The boutique also has vintage clothing, precious and semi-precious jewelry, and gift items--including outrageous hair accessories and belts with large decorative silver buckles. If the items are too pricey for your budget, go for the sale items, in a room off to the right indicated by red ribbons on the hangers.
