Editorial Review for Whiskey Blue – by John Dugan
The Scene
The one-room bar attached to the hipified-Romanesque W Hotel-City Center is sleek, sexy and smart. Leather chairs and candlelit cubic tables set a cool tone; the music (mainly commercial R&B) isn't too loud, and what light there is in the dark space filters through the gauzy front window and the blue-tinted glass. The crowd dresses the lounge part.
The Draw
Patient bartenders make stellar martinis and even better cosmopolitans (with real lime juice, as it should be). Dozens of whiskeys and a handful of wines backdrop the bar. All three of the hotel's bars are technically part of Whiskey Bar. The lobby (a.k.a. the Living Room) is appointed with more leather chairs, low tables, modern ceramics and light cubes. Getting a drink at the atrium bar can be tough on busy nights, so order from a leggy waitress in slinky black.

When to GoAn intimate, even mature, conversation can be carried out here on a slower night. The weekend nights scene is becoming legendary, so expect standing room only.
Know Before You GoTo get to the restrooms, head out the back of Whiskey Blue, through the lobby of the W and up the main stairs.
The ExtrasNon-smokers enjoy a smoke-fee experience at the living room bar.

The beautiful people go here, but they don't act like jerks, so it's all good. The vibe here is chill, and it's cool to enter a hotel and not be able to distinguish it from a lounge.

It's been 4 years since this bar opened up downtown & the after work crowd is just about as good as any night time bar crowd. It makes getting through the work day easier knowing I've got this place to party at afterwards and can still fall into bed by midnight & feel like I had a late night of parting.
Pros: Downtown, Great looking staff, hip trendy look
