It's hard to describe this neighborhood bar. It's not your dive place, but does have a dive feel. Great beers on tap and their hearty menu fills the comfort of your stomach & soul.
Great bar. I came here for the first time on Friday because this is the sponsor bar for my softball league. Everyone from the door staff, the valet, the bar and wait staff were outgoing, warm and excellent at their jobs. I can't wait to come back next week. They had a great buffet set up and rocking drink specials.
The Best Place for Parties, Fun and Drinks. The owners are terrific! We love the crazy, fun events and the food is really good, especially on Sunday for the Diva Brunch. We LOVE this place, and plan our parties here. You can't miss if you are looking for a great place with great people.
You Seriously Have To Be Kidding!?!?. So on this cold and blustry winters night, my girl and I braved the elements for a cocktail and entree at the Spot. She hasn't been there since Frankie Janisch was the chef and we were eager to share Frankie J's Kicken Chicken Parmesan on a cold Chicago night. It being one of our favorite dishes on the menu. My beauteous Femme ordered a blanc de blanc and I,a seven and cran. We settled in to watch the snow fall and to our surprise, when our meal arrived, we were stunned! The Penne was over done and waterlogged, the Tuscan sauce was meek, bland and chunky, thrown together with no regard for the person or persons dining, and the chicken.... To simply smother something in cheese does not always make for an enjoyable culinary experience. This was definitely one of those times. My girl looked up at me. Her big brown eyes glistening with despair as she tried to chew and look pleasant, she finally broke after I asked her what she thought. "I am utterly offended". I had to admit so was I. Being a culinary myself, I would not have served that to anyone, with the freeze dried stale parsley imposed onto the plate. We took a total of five bites between the two of us and decide to call it quits. We finished our drinks and promptly left to nourish ourselves. Finally back where we started, the meal at the Spot didn't even come close to the left overs in the fridge. Please take Chef Janisch's name OFF the menu. This is not his food and to call it his is criminal.
The Spot is The Spot!. What a great addition to Uptown! Embarrassingly enough because I live so close, my first visit to The Spot wasn't until the last month or so when I went to a group party for a neighbor's birthday. Since then, I've gone back a handful of times and always had a blast! The nice/quirky thing about The Spot is that there is so much to do. There are 3 different floors/areas...all of them with different themes. The first floor is set up for dining and offers a full bar. The second floor/area hosts karaoke/open mic. The attic looking area is a modern - but not cheesy or pretentious - urban lounge. If you're looking for a much better than average dining experience, The Spot is the spot for you. If you're looking to belt out some Elton John after a few too many vodkas and cranberry, The Spot is the spot for you. If you're looking to relax or host a private party with a group of friends, The Spot is the spot for you. Dear The Spot, thank you for existing in this area of Uptown! Sincerely, The Residents of Uptown
Love the free parties!. The Spot is all about promotions. It's a really fun place. The first time we went there, my husband & I filled out information cards. Within the next couple weeks, The Spot contacted me to let me know I had won a free party! I was able to invite as many people as I wanted for a free hour of beer, wine & well drinks on a Saturday night from 10p-11p. A few weeks after my party, a friend won. And then my husband won too! The Spot also participates in Restaurant dot com where we purchased a deeply discounted gift certificate ($4) that was worth $25 off a $35 food purchase. The food was mediocre. My salmon was raw in the middle, and the rice was bathed in butter. My husband's fish was fried although the menu hadn't said it was fried. If we hadn't had the discount on food, it would not have been worth the price. We wonder if the burgers would have been better and plan to try them on a Sunday night after 6p when the food menu is 1/2 price! The service, on the other hand, has always been fantabulous. The bartenders often "buy" customer shots. The wait staff are super over-the-top friendly too. There are actually three separate bars there, and smoking is not allowed on the ground floor bar until after 11p. I'm waiting for them to go smoke free because it's can be really, really smoky in there.
Creative menu, awesome customer service, not to be missed!.
YES!! This place is still open, but is now called The Spot on Broadway. If you're looking for customer service unlike no other, a menu with food that you'll not find anywhere else (just ask them about their potato skins!!), then this is THE SPOT TO BE!
Chef Frankie is a gem. His food is stellar, and they make you feel like home. You won't find anyone, even the doorman, with an attitude. You will find every employee helping each other, talking to each other. You will love this place... Not like, not enjoy, LOVE.
They have incredible specials, fun things to do each night of the week.
Wanna learn more? Just stop by and tell them you want a tour of the place. They will roll out the red carpet for you and show you around....
Oh, the food? Spectacular. I've never seen salmon prepared so many ways. YOWZA!
Great service, not so great food. We tried The Spot based on friends' recommendations, and weren't impressed at all. While the service was great - friendly, welcoming staff, the food was extremely disappointing. My salmon entree had too many strong, uncomplimentary flavors, and the strip steak entree had way too much gristle and did not taste fresh. It was basically inedible. They gave us a complimentary dessert (chocolate mousse), which had what I think were small bits of brown paper in it, and some other unidentified pieces of something that didn't belong in mousse. On the other hand, the wine recommendations were good, and our appetizer wasn't bad. There are many other restaurants in the city with great service AND food, however; and unfortunately I don't think we will return.
Great calamari. I love the place! Owner's Brian, Steve and Frank converse with guests tableside. The staff is outgoing and the food is great. There is ample parking across the street and you can choose from three bars inside. There are promotions almost every night and on Sunday after 6pm the food is half price!
There's a little something for everyone at this Uptown restaurant and bar, with areas for eating, lounging and sports-watching..
In Short
With three distinct areas spread over three floors, The Spot aims to cater to every whim. On the top floor is The Green Room, a dark, hip bar with leather couches, hip house music and a large-screen television. The middle floor, with exposed brick walls, is primarily a sports bar, while the first floor is a restaurant with menu items ranging from salads to French dip to pasta.
