Antique-style cafe satisfies that turkey-and-Swiss fix with warm, made-to-order sandwiches..
In Short
The owners of a Chicago antique shop decided to start serving sandwiches to their customers in 1977--and it ended up taking over the business. As the restaurant expanded, natural woods and antique fixtures were used to re-create the signature, old-time country store look at every location. The warm, fresh-roll sandwiches share this classic character--from roast beef and provolone to the Wreck (salami, roast beef, turkey, ham and Swiss). Malts, shakes, root beer floats and homemade ice cream sandwiches complete the throwback.
MUCH better than Subway!. Big line here is not a sign of a slow staff, but a sign that the place has a kick ass sandwich. Line moves very fast, there's live entertainment to keep you company, and it's less than $5 for a sandwich and chips. Sure bet to please your belly (or potbelly if you have one).
Better than Subway.... Toasted sandwiches (sometimes referred to as grinders), reasonable prices. The Wreck is great (several meats, cheese, etc.). Sometimes the lines are long, but it moves pretty quickly. Good lunch spot.
