Chicago >Dragonfly Mandarin Restaurant & Lounge
“Its nothing like the old location.”
“At this point, we were all hungry and irritated with the poor service/food and just wanted to hurry up the hellish night and leave so NO, we didn't want dessert or drinks.”
“This restaurant is probably best known for its drinks and friendly staff and patrons.”
“The food is not as great, but the present.”
“The food was great, we had a variety of dishes from the dreaming roast duck to the coconut shrimp, unfortunately we waited 1 1/2 hr for an 8:30 reservation.”
“The best chinese restaurant in town.”
“The lounge was pretty cool and I'd go back for that.”
“First of all, the service was poor and slow.”
“They seemed irritated by the fact we didn't order an apetizer even though we spent well over 100 bucks for 2 meals and several drinks.”
“First of all, the service was poor and slow.”
Really bad. Just no idea at all. Soft shell crab not crispy and hot but like fish that had been cooked in old batter. Satay were OK but peanut sauce creamy. Fiery curry hot rice with chicken ugly mess of a lot of rice , cheap curry powder and no real heat. Fillet of snapper an insipid vague fish flavour. Fish was staemed but still watery in a salty cheap sauce. Bathroom no soap and no atmosphere. Won't survive the recession and ought not to. Sauvingnon by the bottle aws cheap, no lemony grassy tones. OH why go on...dreadful
Most disgusting attempt at chinese food. A group of us ordered lunch from Dragonfly on a Tuesday afternoon. We were sorely disappointed, both with the food and the price. They should pay people to eat the food. Fiery chicken was slimy, had no taste or "fire", and left a disgusting after taste in our mouths. We thought we would be safe with Orange Chicken as that is breaded and fried. We were wrong. I have never had chicken so dry. It tasted like dried soup chicken, if it really is chicken. How breaded and fried food is dry on the inside is a mystery I don't want solved. Tasteless brown or what they call fried rice was just terrible. Hard, chewy, and no good flavor to mention. Eggrolls had so much pepper and garlic we wondered what we had ordered. We hope nobody wastes their time or money on this place. The service was fine, the food (the most important part) was TERRIBLE.
Great service and decor. I went last Friday and had great service from Barbara. The place is gorgeous and the umbrellas on the wall are very cool. The live jazz was a nice touch and the $20 per person family combo is a great deal. We ate so much and will definitely be back.
Don't bother. Drinks were about as watered down as any I have ever had. If you are charging $8 for a drink you need to put a reasonable amount of alcohol in it. Nickle and diming on this low cost item is just plain dumb. You can make customers very happy with a stiff drink. Food was very average. Ambiance was nice but music a bit loud. Hostess was somewhat curt and condescending. I wouldn't go here again.
Great Chinese food.
great chinese food in the west loop!
its about time we got some great high quality chinese food in the area.
jimmy chings wasnt doing it for me.
red light is ok. too fusion.
dragonfly is really good. i order from them about twice a month and eat there about once a month.
i have yet to have bad service like some of the other reviews had. they probably went on a lounge night. but i am a frequent diner and i can vouch that the food and service is great!
Dont' waste your money.
In our quest to try something new we stopped by one beautiful evening. We were seated prompty in the outdoor seating area. Though the hostess seemed annoyed that we waited at the hostess stand outside at the entrance of the sidewalk seating rather than the hostess stand inside, why put a hostess stand outside if you want customers to come inside for direction?
Then 15 minutes later our overworked waiter came by for our drink order. There were only 5 other tables out there filled. The inside was empty. This poor waiter was scrambling to keep up. The waiter came back w/o the drinks (which we needed at this point) but took our appetizer order... we still had high hopes. He eventually came back with both the appetizers and drinks & apparently all the other tables food/drink orders.
We did notice that they had 2 hostesses wandering about with not much to do. & overlooking the annoying dragonfly emblazoned Mercede's were 2 managers chatting, using their cell phones loudly & doing anything they could but take care of the customers. Call us crazy but if your waiter is drowning because your either 1. didn't hire enough staff for the evening or 2. someone or someone's didn't show up you would either 1. delgate drink orders or something to the superfluous hostess. Or crazier yet, take on some of the duties yourself so your patron's aren't so annoyed that they leave after the appetizer to go elsewhere.
We were appalled at the horrible service (not the waiters fault) and apparent lack of attention to any detail. If they spent half as much time taking care of the customers as they did making sure their car was painted just right, they would have had our loyalty. Of course we might be in the minority in believeing that value for our money is important & lack of attention often translates to lack of attention in area's that negate all those apple's a day.
We'll be back!. Athough it took awhile for server to bring our drinks, the martini was yummy. Dessert was super delicious. We were accomodated to sit outside in a timely manner. Would come back for the food. it smelled great in there!
great food, great service. Normally, I don?t rate any restaurants at all, but last night's experience at Dragonfly was exceptional. I know it was the fourth of July, and despite the chaos and them being busy, our dinner experience went by smoothly. I came in with five friends with no reservations, and asked for outside patio table if necessary, and in spite of being busy, we only waited a good 7 or ten minutes for them to locate, clear and set up a table for us outside. We were directed to sit by the bar as we waited, and the bartender asked us how we were doing and if she could start us off with a drink. (After being carded YAY :) and we had a good laugh about it!!!) A moment later, we were directed to our table followed by someone offering us water and then waitress came. She was able to answer our questions regarding certain dishes, and we opted on (as recommended) the Kooteigh (potstickers), and Crabby Cheese Crunch (crab rangoon) for appetizers and the Honey Walnut Prawns, Mongolian beef and the Fiery Chicken and Duck Fried Rice for our main entrees. We waited for our appetizers for about 5 or so minutes while sipping our drinks, Can I say the Lychee Martini is to die for?! Anyway, over all, we got the service we deserved. I must emphasize that they were busy last night, parties of people coming in and out, having drinks at the bar, I believe they had an event going on as well because there were free food and samplers. But despite it all, we were taken care of, or at least someone made sure that our water goblets were never empty, we were asked how our meal was, our entrees were hot and just DELICIOUS, and enough for 5 hungry people. It?s a really nice thing that people know their duties, and it showed because everything ran smoothly.
This is it!. Came here yesterday cause I heard it was a good date place. I called ahead to make reservations and to let them know I had some special requests (as I really wanted to impress my date). When we got there we were giving the royal treatment I tell you. The food was excellent and the server even better. He really came through and made me look good. The atmosphere was just what I expected for a great romantic date spot. Please do yourself a favor and go check this place out. Especially if you're going on a date. The girl will love you (trust me).
Great Time!. I feel sorry for the other guys who left reviews. Must have been an off night for Dragonfly. I was just there last week for a Birthday party and I have to say it was one of the best times we have ever had. The entire staff, from the hostess to the bussers, was extremley friendly and overall gave some of the best service we could have asked for. We even showed up with five more in our party and they were able to accomodate us very quickly. The food was excelent and worth every penny. The manager came over (who did look a little young, but was still very proffesional) to the table and greeted us all, and even gave us a complimentary bottle of champagne for the birthday. We ended up staying for their late night lounge which was a lot of fun too. It wasn't very stuffy like a night club and the music was really good. Deffineitly go and check this place out for yourself.
