Editorial Review for Michael Anthony Salon Spa – by Robyn Galbos
The Scene
Located on busy Belmont, the sweet-smelling salon is a welcome retreat. The spacious lobby and salon area boasts an impressive retail selection: Shelves are stacked with Aveda's plant-derived hair and bath products, cosmetics, perfumes and candles. Gracious staffers lead clients to the small but immaculate spa area where a locker and robe await. While there's no separate quiet room, you may lounge briefly in the hushed waiting lounge before or after your treatment.
The Services
Skilled therapists perform a long list of spa treatments with products meant to nourish the skin or quiet the mind. The hour-long Aveda signature massage relieves stressed muscles with long fluid motions and calms the senses with essential oils, or skin-care products suited to your preferences or skin type. For ultra-soft skin, book an exfoliating body polish before your massage and leave feeling buffed and smelling delicious.

I went to the MA salon on North Ave for a massage, and I felt it was definitely not worth the prices they are charging. I am a massage therapist myself, and I would hope none of my clients ever leave my massage table feeling the way I did there at MA. The salon itself is lovely, but the staff are rather unprofessional... the employees I dealt with came off like clueless high school girls in my opinion, and throughout my massage I kept hearing loud voices talking and laughing outside the room, and my therapist was extremely rushed. She was pleasant and polite, but she rushed through my massage and scrubbed at me rather than massaged me. She did not even massage my chest, shoulders or face which was disappointing. I would not recommend them for a massage.
Pros: nice ambience in facility
Cons: unprofessional staff, service not worth the money charged

I never write reviews but I had to after my second experience at Aveda's Michael Anthonys. The first time was at the Sheffield location & I received a facial and a pedicure (read sheffield's review) it was ok. My friend had to convinced me to try the Belmont location where she goes and all I have to say is WOW! Are they owned by the same company? I had a 75 minute facial, a massage and pedicure. My facial was by far the most relaxing and the girls hands were very soothing, she put me right to sleep, she has great healing hands and my skin felt so clean and it glowed. The massage was excellent, they incorporate hot towels with their massages and facials and I felt as if I were sleping on a cloud. The pedicure was by far one of the best. The girl wasn't chatty and I like that. I went on a monday afternoon and parking was easy to find. I can't believe that I almost wrote Aveda off because of my last experience, I would of missed out on of the best days that I have had in a long time. Bad part no tip on c.c. -didn't have enough cash and I had to leave less then what I would have lliked.
Pros: great spa treatments
Cons: no credit card tipping
