Enjoy Chicago's #1 rated Breakfast House!--The Chicago Reader

  • Beautiful Breakfasts
  • Fresh Lunches and Soups
  • Rated:20/20! Sherman Kaplan-WBBM Radio

In just a few short years, Victory's Banner has grown to become one of Chicago's most popular breakfast houses. In 2002 and 2003, Victory's Banner was rated #1 breakfast house by the Chicago Reader Restaurant Rater Poll. We recently received a rare 20/20 rating from Sherman Kaplan's review on WBBM radio, and for all this we are both honored and grateful. For all those who work at Victory's Banner, the restaurant stands as a spiritual expression. We exist for one reason and one reason only...to serve you joyfully. We hope to do this by offering the best food we can, prepared and served as devotedly as possible. We use the finest ingredients, like free-range eggs(no hormones-they taste better!), imported cheeses, fresh fruit, real whipped cream and great coffee. Come in and visit Victory's Banner to see how nourishing, inwardly and outwardly, a delicious meal can be!

Editorial Review for Victory's Banner – by J.P. Anderson

The Scene
A yuppie bohemian crowd gathers at this sunny breakfast and lunch spot in Roscoe Village. Owner Pradhan Balter has been a student of meditation for more than 35 years, and it shows in the room's spiritual vibe. Servers wear saris, while books on inner peace line shelves around the small room. Other than that, it's like any other good morning spot--relaxed, friendly service, mellow atmosphere and delicious food.

The Food
There's enough tofu, soy and egg-less, meat-less dishes on this menu to satisfy any vegan. Along with veggie burgers and "Neatloaf," Victory's Banner tempts with pancakes, three-egg (free-range, hormone-free) omelettes, and thick, piping-hot French toast with peach butter and real maple syrup. Vermont cheddar adds tang to a broccoli and soy sausage omelette; other toppings include spinach, sun-dried tomatoes and five other cheeses. Grab a fresh-made chocolate muffin or cookie on your way out the door--they're dessert nirvana.

5 Star Rating: Highly Recommended

I have heard about Victory's Banner for too long from too many people, so I finally made my way over to Roscoe Village to give it a try. Well, it was just excellent in every way. I always include a sample of simple scrambled eggs as a "test standard." When do you remember ever saying "God, these eggs are delicious!"? The waiter explained that VIctory's Banner uses free~range eggs and cook in clarified butter. Everything is cooked fresh. The folks I was with also sampled the pesto-goat cheese omelet, satisfaction-promise (which delivers on its name), and we all shared an order of the "Award Winning" French Toast. My declaration BEST FRENCH TOAST IN THE CITY. Coffee is rich, chai is the real thing (not a steamed tea bag). Service was great and friendly. I left happy. It has become my favorite breakfast house.

Pros: Food, service, value

Cons: sometimes the wait to get in on the weekends can be daunting, but its worth it.

Great breakfast food especially for vegetarians. I've eaten here before and had a good experience except the last time I went, I was ignored by the wait staff for 10-15 minutes while other customers coming in after me were greeted and got seated immediately. I did not feel welcomed at all. I spoke with the owner/manager regarding this treatment and when she asked who was suppose to seat customers, no one knew. I left without ever receiving any service. That will be my last visit.

Pros: food

Cons: service
