Editorial Review for Chief O'Neill's Pub – by John Gerard McLaughlin
The Scene
Fully designed in and imported from Ireland, Chief O'Neill's is divided into two rooms, the public house and the dining room. The public house is the more raucous of the two rooms: You'll find young hipsters bending their elbows alongside kilt-wearing members of the Emerald Society, and a group of bagpipe-playing Chicago policemen of Irish descent congregating near the fireplace.
The Draw
This may be the best room in town to hear traditional Irish music; listeners take their tunes seriously. Foot-stomping and hollering drives the maniacally fast jigs and reels, but you may be gently shushed if you talk too loudly during an a cappella rendering of an old love song. Irish dining mainstays include appetizers like curried chips and Galway Bay mussels, and entrees like Gaelic steak and braised beef tips in Guinness.
