Editorial Review for Bistro Campagne – by J.P. Anderson
The Scene
The folks behind Evanston fine-dining favorite Campagnola have come up with another winner. The interior of this casual French spot is cozy and Prairie-style, with lots of rich wood trim, a bright bar area and intimate nooks for seating. Outside, a romantic patio lush with greenery and lit by tiki torches beckons an all-ages crowd of families and couples. Service is smart and attentive.
The Food
Starters on the simple French menu include tender escargots a la Provence--meaning lots of savory garlic, olive oil and tomato--along with flavorful mussels steamed in Belgian ale and a yummy charcuterie plate with creamy truffle mousse and a coarse, delicious pork terrine. As for entrees, mustard-crusted salmon is juicy and sweet, Niman Ranch pork is perfectly tender, and steak frites satisfies with abundant, smoky flavor. For dessert, dainty profiteroles are light and just-right. Try the oozing chocolate souffle Robuchon for a richer finish.

Outdoor DiningA lush garden right next to the restaurant provides the perfect urban escape in spring and summer, and also a lovely venue for wedding and baby showers.

My boyfriend and I celebrated the new year at this adorably quaint restaurant. It was our first visit and we could not have been more pleased. They were absolutely full during our entire visit (New Years Eve) but we still received wonderful service and attention. It is a small place which makes it feel warm and cozy. Both of us had exquisite meals and the wine AND beer list were awesome. Considering the quality of the food, and the service, we thought the prices were exceptional. We have spent MUCH more out in Chicago and have not received such delicious food or excellent service. We will be returning when the weather is warmer to enjoy another wonderful meal outside!!
Pros: value, service, ambience

We loved this place. Our server was French- not that it mattered, but it did add to the authenticity of the experience. The chicken was juicy and delicious. Wine list was not extensive, but they have a decent selection. Romantic atmosphere in a hot neighborhood!
Pros: Great atmosphere & food is solid
Cons: Can feel a bit cramped with a party of 4 or more
