world class dining experience.
I have dined around the globe (including in France), & this was one of the best meals ever, from start to finish. Great cocktails while we waited for a patio table, enchanting ambiance both in & out, the patio sparkled with lights among the trees & bushes. Onion strudel is a must have, mussels, sauteed greens, & gratin were fantastic. Great wine & beer list, attentive server, gracious management. Would return (from out of town) in a heartbeat!

Delicious, Romantic, Charming.
My boyfriend and I celebrated the new year at this adorably quaint restaurant. It was our first visit and we could not have been more pleased. They were absolutely full during our entire visit (New Years Eve) but we still received wonderful service and attention. It is a small place which makes it feel warm and cozy. Both of us had exquisite meals and the wine AND beer list were awesome. Considering the quality of the food, and the service, we thought the prices were exceptional. We have spent MUCH more out in Chicago and have not received such delicious food or excellent service. We will be returning when the weather is warmer to enjoy another wonderful meal outside!!

Unstuffy, Country French place you'll love....
We loved this place. Our server was French- not that it mattered, but it did add to the authenticity of the experience. The chicken was juicy and delicious. Wine list was not extensive, but they have a decent selection. Romantic atmosphere in a hot neighborhood!

Unimpressed.
I thoroghly enjoyed the decor of Bistrot Compagne, and the layout of the menu seemed appealing. However, I felt the service was average to poor, and the food unimpressive. I ordered a ketel one and tonic, they were out of ketel one. We were the first table on a Saturday...mmmm. The leg of lamb came out warm on a plate of cold rice, and the rice was NOT supposed to be cold. The souffle took twenty minutes to come out and it was so unimpressive. Our tab for 4 was $151 with tip. I want to give them another chance, but there's no way I would pay this much for so little effort. This place should not be a 9+ rated restaurant. Go to Bistrot Zinc downtown instead.

Heavy-handed cooking, all-American desserts.
Unremarkable restaurant serving heavy-handed interpretations of classic French bistro fare in an uninspired ambience. Desserts, despite French names appear to resemble those found at American casual chains like Applebee's or TGI Friday's. Signature chocolate souffle presentation was closer to lava cake -- with an unmelted chocolate center! I would not go out of my way to visit this restaurant again.

Salty escargot.
Dine on Friday 9/30/05, they don't take reservations, arrived around 8pm, didn't get seated until almost 10pm. Escargot and mussel soup were salty. Menu repertoire included lamb, rabit. I ordered Moulard duck and was advised that the chef would NOT cook it over medium. The redish pink fleshy duck breast over a dark fruity reduction came. Liked the more-cooked ends but the middle part was unbearable. I consider myself a hardcore eater-carpaccio, kobe beef, sushi/sashimi (sea urchins, natto) I've had a flesh of a flickering flounder at Heat...I love my steaks rare but I'm embarrassed to day I didn't finish my plate. We weren't having too much fun that we skipped dessert. If you're dining there on a Friday, arrive early.

Do not waste your money..
I do not understand why this place has such a good review. It is horrible from the service to the food right down to the prices. Save your time and money and dine somewhere else.

Bistro brings intimate, French country dining to Lincoln Square..
In Short
Lincoln Square locals call this Prairie-style restaurant their resident bistro, a community staple for farm-fresh, rustic eats. A bright bar area and bustling dining room beckons an all-ages crowd of families and couples, while a romantic patio lush with flowers and greenery . A mosaic-tiled fountain enhances the loveliness. A traditional bistro menu covers all the classics, from steak frites to Croque Monsieur and Croque Madame to a juicy braised rabbit leg and loin paired with Brussels sprouts, mashed potatoes and mustard sauce.

yummy.
Love the chicken dish but not very excited about the price. Overall the food was very good and the wine list rocked.

Outstanding!.
I went to dinner on a Wednesday night, no occasion to celebrate and the evening turned into one of the most memorable dinners I've had in recent years. The food was tremendous, basic bistro fare:goat cheese salad is the best. The wine recommendation was the perfect addition to our meal. The desert was perfect. The server was spectacular. We sat in the couryard area which is perfect in the summer. Perfection!
