Waited An Hour - food never came.
Families NOT Welcome.
Our family of four includes two teenage boys. We went to Gatsby's early on a recent Saturday evening. We waited over an hour for our food. It never came! After about 30 minutes the wait staff started coming over to the table trying to sell us more beer (only one of the adults was drinking). But all we wanted was our food. They asked if we wanted to see a manager. We said no we just wanted our food. After almost an hour we told our waitress that we would leave in 5 minutes if the food didn't come. Then the rudest manager I've ever dealt with came over. Again we told him that we just wanted our food. His attitude was that WE were causing a problem. After we had waited for an hour and still didn't have our food I guess in his mind the problem was with us and he needed to come and talk to us. In truth the problem was in his kitchen. He dealt with us the way a bouncer at a bar deals with a drunk. But I hadn't been drinking at all. We were upset - understandably so, that it had been an hour and our food was no where in sight.
They were not busy when we arrived and first ordered at 5:30PM but now it's getting close to 7PM and they are busy. Their excuse was that the kitchen was "backed up". But everyone around us had been served food.
One explanation is simple incompetence. Another possible explanation--if you are not buying large amounts of alcohol they would just rather that you leave.
I think maybe this is an OK neighborhood bar. If you've been a patron, if you want to drink lots of beer, watch TV, eat so-so pizza, then this is an OK place. If you are a family that just wants to eat dinner, and if you are not going to spend $40 or $50 on alcohol, then go someplace else. Go ANY place other than Gatsby's
Bad News. I had been going to gatsby's for over 30 years, and we just went in the other night after not being there in a few months we really used to enjoy there food. Well I guess unless you drink booze they dont really want you in there and let me tell you the food was HORRIBLE! we like to go there for appetizers, the Waitress was beyond rude and totally ignored us. She screwed up our food order and never checked on our soda's they had maybe 10 tables at the time and at least one or two other waitress's so there was no excuse. We will NEVER go there again and will make sure that we mention to all of our friends how dissatisified we were, we know alot of people that used to go there. I guess poor management . When I tried to get the bartenders attention he was to busy talking to his staff and regular customers that he could not be bothered. I guess I know that next restaurant that will be going under, it is ashame because it used to be a great place to go for food and cocktails.
