Editorial Review for La Tasca Restaurant – by Citysearch Editors
In Short
At the marble-topped bar, a crowd buzzes and sips glasses of red or white sangria while waiting to be seated in one of three dining areas. Walls are decorated with whimsical tile murals, Picasso-esque paintings and vintage European posters. Hot and cold tapas include zesty garlic-potato salad; Spanish meats; baked goat cheese; breaded calamari; and jumbo mushrooms stuffed with savory ground pork.

Tapas in Arlington Heights, I must say, surpass the many tapas we have sampled throughout the U.S. Even some of the tapa bars in Spain. The staff is professional but, give you a feel that you have known them for years. The atmosphere is colorful with walls of painted tile murals, marble bar, lots of wood and authentic pictures and photos. Another huge point for us is the restaurant is very clean. We have been drive out there to meet family and for some of there live shows. Our favorite is the grilled baby octopus, paella, herbed goat cheese, always at least one of the specials and of course “their” Flan! Flan! Flan! La Tasca just makes for a great gathering place. After eleven years they are defiantly doing it right.
Pros: Food, ambience, live music, free vallet
Cons: It is not in Chicago

Ive been to every tapas restaurant in Chicago and none compare to LaTasca. Right in the heart of downtown Arlington Hts., LaTasca offers the perfect dining experience. The sangria is outstanding and the extensive wine list has something for everyone's taste. I recommend trying the "Vina Ardanza" which is a vino from Rioja that is simply liquid heaven. Some of my favorite tapas here are the goat cheese, scallops in a vegtable bechemel, trio of grilled sausages, and of course, the beef tenderloin fillet with the cabrales cheese sauce. Also, pay attention to the wonderful collection of daily specials which are always the highlight of my meal. LaTasca also offers a traditional Spanish paella which no other tapas restaurant in Chicago can rival. The service is top notch and everyone is consistantly very helpful, curtious, and energetic. For dessert I recommend trying the flan, which is some of the best flan you will ever have. If custard isnt youre thing then i would go with the sauteed bannana topped with caramel and pistaccios. Overall, LaTasca is head and shouders above the rest in the tapas world. If youve never been yet, crawl out from under that rock and head to downtown Arlington Hts. for the most incredible tapas experience youve ever had!
Pros: extensive wine list, daily specials, wonderful service
Cons: weekend reservations reserved for parties of 6 or more
