In Short – Dick Portillo opened his first restaurant from a trailer with no running water in 1963 in Villa Park, Ill. Today, each location has a unique theme that reflects the founder's love of history and Chicago. Menu favorites include Chicago-style hot dogs (topped with mustard, relish, onions, tomatoes, pickle and sport peppers), Polish sausages, Italian beef sandwiches, salads, burgers and more. Sides include onion rings, fries, soup and for dessert there's chocolate cake, lemon cake or strawberry shortcake.
Mmmm burgers!

The first thing I noticed when I walked in was that I was greeted by the wonderful aroma of burgers grilling on an open fire. The second thing I noticed is that you need to be ready to order immediately. The second time I went, the line was building up so they were taking orders in line on paperbags, handing them to you, and then when you got to the counter you just handed your paperbag order to the cashier who called in the order and took your money.
The burgers here are serious, I ordered a single burger and got something akin to a whopper but better in my opinion.
Definitely a good place if you're craving a burger.
- Pros: Food is fresh, service is fast
- Cons: You can almost feel the grease in the air, might be a pro to some.
