What People Are Saying About Giacomo's Ristorante Italiano

In Short – Brick walls and windows flanked by white columns set the tone at this boisterous "Sopranos"-style fave. Catering largely to the set with extended family in tow, the menu centers on design-your-own pasta--such as penne with marinara or linguine with vodka-cream sauce--and standbys like chicken Vesuvio, veal marsala and steak pizzaiola. The house-made pastas--spinach gnocchi, manicotti and cavatelli--are heavy hitters, too, along with seafood dishes like shrimp scampi.

like restaurants used to be??? none that I return to
by prov at Citysearch
I would have preferred to leave a comment on the restaurant's website but there was no way to do that....unusual that feedback is not solicited and contained therein...though the food was not bad it was not exceptional. the most off-putting thing was being charged $2.00 (yes, $2.00) for blue cheese dressing. it was not indicated as an up-charge on the menu and our server never mentioned it at the time I ordered. We had ordered 2 full entrees and a bottle of wine so we weren't there to save $$$. I just like to know when I'm being charged for something before the event. this was very, very bad form and as a result we will not return...regrettable.

After reading reviews we decided to give this restaurant a try.... bad mistake!! The food was uninspiring, the bread was "italian style" wonder bread at best. The stuffed artichoke was dry and tasteless, and didn't even look like it started out as an artichoke!! The "fresh" pasta was rubbery and the sauce flavorless and watery.... the quality of the food certainly didn't justify the prices... there are a lot of Italian restaurants in the Chicagoland area, if this restaurant is going to be compared to Taylor Street it needs Gordon Ramsay ASAP!!!
- Pros: Nice Staff | Nice Atmosphere

Great Food / Poor Service
by mll palatine at Citysearch
Sat down at 6 pm. Service started out great, then went downhill quickly. After dinner, waited and waited for server to order dessert. Finally, got to our table & ordered. Dessert did come out quickly. After dessert, waited and waited for wait person to give us our check (3 other tables were waiting for their checks also). Got up from table and asked hostess to get us our check, which she did. Again, the food was excellent, but service is part of the dining experience and we were so disappointed. I am sure there are other restaurants in the area they have excellent food and great service. Will never return, not worth it.
- Pros: Excellent Food
- Cons: Sub-Standard Service
Best Chicagoland Food in the Area
by Giants at Citysearch
Our family is a yearly subscriber to the Chicagoland Entertainment book and we decided to take advantage of the coupon within, for Giacomo's Ristorante Italiano. To put it simply we were more than satisfied. From the Service to the food it cannot be beat. We conceivably pass at least 10 well known Italian restaurants to get there. Mr. and Mrs. Zito are unbelievable at what they do ,which is making the customer feel at home and receiving a great meal. Although we have only been back ounce since, the holidays are over and we will be back more frequently. Although you would think it was not a child friendly establishment, you would be WRONG. Anna Maria greeted our 1 year old with such love and even Giacomo himself came out of the kitchen to make sure he said "HI" to him both times.
To sum it up , make your way to Giacomo's for an authentic genuine experience and best of all , THE FOOD!!!

Chicagoland's best Italian restaurant no doubt
by DickFarrel at Citysearch
Sensational cuisine. Expertly prepared. The 10 years that the Zitos have owned this place, really shows in the presentation, preparation and quality. The homemade pasta dishes and the unique freshness of their seafood and poultry dishes is unmatched anywhere else in Chicagoland, Maybe even in North America. Whether or not they are Zagat rated is irrevelant, as a experienced restaurant consumer, I know they ought to be high on the list.
Prices are more than reasonable. You'd expect to pay much more downtown. The dining room is warm, cozy and the aroma of the freshly prepared Italian delights caress your senses and stimulate your appetite.
I highly recommend their daily specials and appetizer varieties. Save room for dessert. The Tiramisu is to fight for. (I would say die for, but then you wouldn't get to eat it).
- Pros: affordably fantastic
- Cons: undiscoverable
