Best burgers in Chicago area..
Hackney's has been in business for over 60 years and has really perfected their hamburgers. Everyone tries to copy them. They serve a mound of fried onions that you have to try if you go there.
They actually have 4 restaurants: 2 in Glenview, 1 in Lake Zurich and 1 in Wheeling.

Used to be better. I remember this place was lots better a few years ago. The burgers now seem drier and not as big Onion loaf is still the best in town

The Mature Burger Lover's Choice. Hackney's has been known amongst our family and friends for it's great food for decades. Their cheeseburger on rye has steadfastly remained at the top of Chicago-area cuisine up there on the top of the list near Uno's Pizza. Their blocks of onion rings are a unique complement that I have yet to find anywhere else. If you're ever near the North Chicago area and haven't tried them - you gotta stop by and check them out.

Hackney's. I recommend everone try their Buffalo burger. It's somewhat healthier--buffalo meat is much leaner than beef. This burger offers great taste.

Grease & Oil. First, you got the wrong Hackney's. The one on Harms is barely a "kissin' cousin" of the one on Lake for food and ambience. The Harm's Hackney's indoor seating is like a run-down circa 1965 golf course pro-shop. The out-door seating you describe does not meet the standards of my last backyard. As to the food, the burger's are WAY over-rated and esoteric in their variety and preparation (a bleu cheese burger, give me a break). And that famous onion loaf...picture it served on end still in a brick shape and oozing cooking oil onto the paper towel underneath. Ymmm!

Onyums. While the burgers are huge, they aren't the best. Some spices would help. The onion rings keep you coming back to Hackney's.

Great Night Out. Don"t grab a quick bite and see a movie. See the flick then top it off with a wonderful and plesant meal at Hackneys. The food, service and atmosphere is great.
