Horrible Experience. I am glad so that many people like this place, however, I cannot ever return. I was very confused on how the setup was and had two young children with me. Luckily my five year old was able to tell me the gist of how it worked because NOT ONE person offered up any, even after realizing I had never been there. When I first walked in I was greeted by a set up boobs leaning over the counter, at this "family restaurant." I then sat at the table and waited not realizing that you do EVERYTHING for yourself. I didn't mind that but it would have been nice to have been greeted when you walked in and maybe asked if you have been there before so that they could tell you how the place works. I finally showed my frustration at the third counter I had to go to (when searching for my own plates and silverware). The man asked if I was new and when I said yes he proceeded to 'tsch' me three times, as if annoyed that I didn't understand the crazy concept of going to three counters and paying for drinks and food at two different counters. So instead of helping me he was just irritated with me. I later asked who the manager was and come to find out it was the man who was so rude to me just because I was new. I have never done a review before but have never felt so frustrated by a lack of customer service and unprofessionalism from a restaurant, especially a manager! Have a little sympathy for new customers, Barnaby's and Manager Paul!

Restaurant Manager / Owner Discriminate. Arriving at the restaurant at 8:30 p,m. monday night Aug, 2, 2010.

We had a party of 10 people including 2 children, 3 out of country guests of which 1 was lactose intollerant adult.

Meantime, it took several individuals at the facility to tell us the closing time.

My wife & I proceeded to the counter to place the order. While discussing what to orderwe concluded with 2 lrg & 1 sm pizzas. To accomodate the kids & adult, we had requested the manager taking the order they could not put cheese on half of the lagre pizza's. He replied "NO, since the cheese could run to the other side". That made absolutely no sense. Then we decided to make the small pizza cheeseless but it needed to be spicy but again he refused to do so.

The manager the exclaimed to us we had to eat the way they made the pizza or leave...WHAT??

The ordering turned into a quarrel, myself explaining that we also own a pizzeria for 10 years (which we recent ly closed)...so he states then go eat at your place & you can have it the way you want.

Still proceeding to pay - I drop the money on the counter top.

Followed by additional insults by the manager by telling us we're holdinghim from attending to others. We were the only ones.

Eventually, he refused to provide service to us so we left.

The manager - possibly owner is a racist.

We're following up with a complaint to the Village of Northbrook.

NOT JUST PIZZA. The food at this Barnaby's is the best. I love the potato skins and the french onion soup. The pizza cannot be beat for thin crust. While the restaurant is hectic, the one in Niles is even crazier - AND WONDERFUL. Bring the kids and they can laugh and visit and walk around and be loud and HAVE FUN. Barnaby's is not for a romantic dinner. I love all of the Barnaby's for their relaxed, fun atmosphere and Fantastic pizza!

Order to go...don't eat in!!!. I'll give in to the fact that the place has good food. That's the ONLY compliment I'll give the place. It is a free-for-all as far as finding a place to sit. People throw their coats, bags, phones...whatever on the tables to "hold their place" while they run up and order their food. It is complete chaos! The customers were the rudest bunch of people I've ever seen. While the food is good, it's not worth eating here...order to go if you must. I'll never go back!

Family Fun with Great Pizza. Labeled as a family restaurant that serves a full menu of food and drink, Barnaby's real treasure is the beloved pizza pie. In true Chicago style, this pizza is of the thin crust variety and cut in squares. The outer edge of the crust is a little more raised and molded into a curvey, wave-like shape. This feature, along with the use of corn meal added to the bottom, gives Barnaby's a unique look with an original, great tasting crust. They offer a wide array of toppings, including italian sausage, which is simply tremendous. The cheese and sauce are consistently served in correct amounts, that blend together delightfully. The interior gives off a nice, dark tavern feel for the romantic couple, as well as a jukebox and several televisions, for large groups and sports fans respectively. Barnaby's of Northbrook is the Chicago area's best kept secret for pizza.
