Bought a Groupon for the Led Zeppelin 2
Concert on 7/27/2012. It included 2 tickets, an appetizer, and 2 hours of "bar package 2"
As late as noon on the 27th bar package 2 included wines, call liquor, domestic beers and microbrews including Great Lakes Brewery.
When we got there we were told that the only drinks available were tap wine, well liquor and Budweiser.
I immediately checked the website and noticed that they had changed "bar package 2" by omitting call liquor and Great Lakes Brewery. They also added another bar package.
The manager Jimmy offered me ONE free beer of choice for the "mistake" He wouldn't offer a refund.
I tore off my wrist band and threw it in my complimentary plastic cup along with my coupon for an appetizer. On my way out, 2 hours before the concert even started, I handed my cup, wristband and appetizer coupon to the oaf bouncer explaining what happened and he couldn't have cared less.
This experience along with my last time here when I saw the bartender rinsing out the bar rag in the glass sanitizing sink has pretty much set my opinion of this place in stone.
GO SOMEWHERE ELSE, ANYWHERE ELSE.
Durty Nellie's is misspelled. The whole operation is just plain DIRTY.
WORST IRISH PUB EVER. Love the classic Irish pub scene. Boston does it up wicked well. And so does our hometown - Chicago. Friends from the area insisted upon going to this establishment, citing it was "quite the scene." Enter I and my girls. Can you say trashy? And unkempt. The bar cover was ridiculous and the bouncer stamped a Mr. Clean look-a-like onto my hand, balding and everything. Have scrubbed it ruthlessly. Disappeared after much persistence. Finally. Then the crowd. A gutter crowd of obnoxious, ugly, and rude individuals. Had to wait 15 minutes just for her highness, the bitchiest and fugliest bartender I've ever seen, to pretend to not notice me. Drinks had almost zero alcohol in them. On top of that, to close the tab later on in the night was a process that took another 20 minutes too long. Just to get her attention. Again. As she flirted with Mr. Slob and his wing man. At least the band played its music well. Journey. Rascal Flatts. Ahhh - Those bathrooms. Well, male staff would randomly barge in, with no prior notice, to change the toilet paper or sweep up. And girls were using the stalls during these visits. Disgusting. At least have female staff enter the female restroom to check if anyone is using the actual toilet and not the mirror. But the guys. Now this was a girl's night out. And the smelliest posing losers were lounging around... Felt eyes everywhere. Lots of drunken and disorderly behavior. Where were the cute frat boys in the button downs or polos? Gahhh! Needless to say, WORST experience ever. Oh, and did I mention they tried to charge me 30 more than what I signed on my receipt? Still dealing with that situation... Next time I'll skip this dive,
Great music venue, gourmet pub food, awesome beer selection. Durty Nellies has the ability to feel like an intimate venue despite its large size, you always feel like you have front row seats to whatever band is playing. The new menu is downright gourmet for pub food and I like that any sandwich or panini can be turned into a wrap at no extra charge. The selection of beers is impressive (who gives a damn about Miller Lite when there is so much more to choose from) and there are so many different areas to this bar that you can feel like you're going to another bar just by walking into a different room. This bar is not only a favorite for the locals but people travel from all different areas to hang out here. (it helps that the venue is conveniently located directly across from the Palatine Metra stop) All in all two thumbs up!
Avoid on any night.. Nellies is not a business like you would think. It's a confused ownership of fighting owner/brothers who hire inept people because they are cheaper. The music suffers because they hire inept but cheap sound people, who regularly trash the gear. The people they hire to hire bands and run entertainment are amateurs who think a game of corn hole is the olympics. Bands are screwed regularly unless you can do some Neil Diamond and all 80's covers. Hairbanger's Wig band plays every other week. Yuk. They boast national acts but who wants to see one of the back street boys? Yes the "security" is a pack of hyenas left to their own laws - but they are cheap too. They rob the place regularly. Really nobody is in charge there. Be careful. Lot's of phony "authority" from the staff at nellies too. They just might be the bus boy causing trouble but you and your girlfriend will get smashed in the process of "security". The restaurant has a great chef, but you could never tell because of the inept service and confusion getting it out to you from the kitchen. NO MILLER. That says enough. Budweiser China imposter. Cheap and phony. They should turn it into a municipal theater for children's plays. But they would screw that up too. Stop in. Spend some dough. The meds they run on must be expensive and they obviously need your support. 3rd rate cover band headquarters. Lousy service, phony "authority" from the hostess ri-ght through management, wait people to the entertainment buying and sound people. Expensive beer. Expensive food that takes an hour to get if at all. They have never gotten it right. NO LOCAL CUSTOMERS. The town people don't even go there anymore. It's like a west Irish mcdonalds or portillo's run by skinheads and aliens. Nothing in the place is Irish anymore. Not one shamrock. Really good location. Needs a new management. Could be awesome if done well. Staff attitude fails. Good place for a fight now. Shameful really....who's kiddin' who? There are many better places.
A NUMBER 1, Peeeteeee!!!!. Hello again, Peteee333, I still remember you. I still feel compelled to comment after reading your completely misleading review. Durty Nellies security has always been concerned about 100% of their patrons. On any given night, 98% of those patrons come in to enjoy what they have to offer and go home having had a great time. I know for a fact that the security at Nellies does EVERYTHING they can to make sure that these people walk away having had a great time and a safe time!!! Now, the other 2% come to Nellies, and as we all know Petee, cause problems and make it UNSAFE for the people who simply want to come and have a great time at a great venue. Just like you Petee!! All problems with these sort of individuals is met accordingly, properly, and swiftly depending on the severity of the problem or concern. THIS IS A BUSINESS PETEE, Security at Nellies will always protect the upstanding people who visit from those who want to come and just start fights and cause obvious problems and act like knuckleheads, as well as the owners intererests. The goal here Petee, is to make sure that we run a RESPECTABLE BUSINESS. Opinions will always vary based on the quality of individual, but, The OVERWHELMING majority have commented, and documented that Durty Nellies in Palatine is an awesome place to have a great time and see some great bands!!! Once again Peteeee, as the head of security has said numerous times, "it's a business, if you don't come to our house and act like a knucklehead, we won't come to your house and act like a knucklehead". Good Luck out there....Peteeeeeee.
Great beer selection, great food!.
My husband and I recently went here for happy hour Friday night. The pub was friendly, and not very crowded (we ordered our drinks, then grabbed two just-open stools at the bar). I was amazed at the many cool selections of specialty beer they have to offer right on tap at the bar. Between the two of us, we ventured and tried 4 different brands we never had before - which led me to think of the other guy's comment: Why order the typical run-of-the-mill generic beer when there's about 100 others to sample? Lots of neighborhood character there for active people-watching, and there are TV's everywhere, muted to very current music.
We decided to get a bite to eat, so we moved to a table (no waiting) and ordered the special "Ahi Tuna Sliders" and their Wings I had heard so much about (with the thick, sweet BBQ sauce). Both were delicious! The Tuna Sliders were sear-cooked perfectly and came with a salmon colored ginger/mayo sauce and matchstick-cut carrots and jicama. This was something I definitely didn't expect to see on the menu and the Chef came through on those - VERY tasty! I'm not really a wing person, but having heard so much about them we ordered them and loved them. The sauce is fantastic and is key on that item. This is some sophisticated "pub food!" I'd definitely order both again, plus, both dishes came HOT out of the kitchen - and that makes a difference for me. We were pleasantly pleased with our whole experience at Durty Nellie's.
Ok if you like being treated like cattle.. Avoid this place. The cover is excessive. The bouncers charge more in order to steal the difference. They also bloody innocent patrons for no reason and get away with it. Expect to be treated like dog dung. Also they don't serve ANY Miller products. Not to mention this place is constantly filled with yuppie jerks.
If you want to be a valued Customer don't go here. I recently went to Durty Nellies on a Wednesday night to see a friend of mine perform in a new band that he was in. At the door upon entering the club I experienced a $10 cover charge. I didn't mind the cover charge until I spoke with a few of my other friends in the club that stated that they only paid $5 to get in. Now the difference of $5 is not the point. The point is that when I go to an establishment I expect to be treated fairly. Not better than anyone but none the less FAIR. I would like everyone who reads this to think of a time that they were treated unfair and I would like those people to think of another establishment that they could spend there MONEY at. A concerned customer. Thanks for reading.
excellent beer selection & great food. when they demolished the old Durty Nellie's, they obviously decided to go upscale when building the new one -- an incredible place for music, a great beer selection (including a good belgian selection) and they have some of the best bar food around -- good enough that we go for dinner frequently. The only drawback is the servers are incompetent (nice people that mean well, but incompotent none-the-less)... OH, and a great beer garden
