Avoid on any night.

Nellies is not a business like you would think. It's a confused ownership of fighting owner/brothers who hire inept people because they are cheaper. The music suffers because they hire inept but cheap sound people, who regularly trash the gear. The people they hire to hire bands and run entertainment are amateurs who think a game of corn hole is the olympics. Bands are screwed regularly unless you can do some Neil Diamond and all 80's covers. Hairbanger's Wig band plays every other week. Yuk. They boast national acts but who wants to see one of the back street boys? Yes the "security" is a pack of hyenas left to their own laws - but they are cheap too. They rob the place regularly. Really nobody is in charge there. Be careful. Lot's of phony "authority" from the staff at nellies too. They just might be the bus boy causing trouble but you and your girlfriend will get smashed in the process of "security". The restaurant has a great chef, but you could never tell because of the inept service and confusion getting it out to you from the kitchen. NO MILLER. That says enough. Budweiser China imposter. Cheap and phony. They should turn it into a municipal theater for children's plays. But they would screw that up too. Stop in. Spend some dough. The meds they run on must be expensive and they obviously need your support. 3rd rate cover band headquarters. Lousy service, phony "authority" from the hostess ri-ght through management, wait people to the entertainment buying and sound people. Expensive beer. Expensive food that takes an hour to get if at all. They have never gotten it right. NO LOCAL CUSTOMERS. The town people don't even go there anymore. It's like a west Irish mcdonalds or portillo's run by skinheads and aliens. Nothing in the place is Irish anymore. Not one shamrock. Really good location. Needs a new management. Could be awesome if done well. Staff attitude fails. Good place for a fight now. Shameful really....who's kiddin' who? There are many better places.
- Pros: Can act like you have brains and money because it is expensive.
- Cons: Wig cover bands and corn hole? Really?
A NUMBER 1, Peeeteeee!!!!

Hello again, Peteee333, I still remember you. I still feel compelled to comment after reading your completely misleading review. Durty Nellies security has always been concerned about 100% of their patrons. On any given night, 98% of those patrons come in to enjoy what they have to offer and go home having had a great time. I know for a fact that the security at Nellies does EVERYTHING they can to make sure that these people walk away having had a great time and a safe time!!! Now, the other 2% come to Nellies, and as we all know Petee, cause problems and make it UNSAFE for the people who simply want to come and have a great time at a great venue. Just like you Petee!! All problems with these sort of individuals is met accordingly, properly, and swiftly depending on the severity of the problem or concern. THIS IS A BUSINESS PETEE, Security at Nellies will always protect the upstanding people who visit from those who want to come and just start fights and cause obvious problems and act like knuckleheads, as well as the owners intererests. The goal here Petee, is to make sure that we run a RESPECTABLE BUSINESS. Opinions will always vary based on the quality of individual, but, The OVERWHELMING majority have commented, and documented that Durty Nellies in Palatine is an awesome place to have a great time and see some great bands!!! Once again Peteeee, as the head of security has said numerous times, "it's a business, if you don't come to our house and act like a knucklehead, we won't come to your house and act like a knucklehead". Good Luck out there....Peteeeeeee.
- Pros: A great time!!
- Cons: Occasional knuckleheads!
Great beer selection, great food!

My husband and I recently went here for happy hour Friday night. The pub was friendly, and not very crowded (we ordered our drinks, then grabbed two just-open stools at the bar). I was amazed at the many cool selections of specialty beer they have to offer right on tap at the bar. Between the two of us, we ventured and tried 4 different brands we never had before - which led me to think of the other guy's comment: Why order the typical run-of-the-mill generic beer when there's about 100 others to sample? Lots of neighborhood character there for active people-watching, and there are TV's everywhere, muted to very current music.
We decided to get a bite to eat, so we moved to a table (no waiting) and ordered the special "Ahi Tuna Sliders" and their Wings I had heard so much about (with the thick, sweet BBQ sauce). Both were delicious! The Tuna Sliders were sear-cooked perfectly and came with a salmon colored ginger/mayo sauce and matchstick-cut carrots and jicama. This was something I definitely didn't expect to see on the menu and the Chef came through on those - VERY tasty! I'm not really a wing person, but having heard so much about them we ordered them and loved them. The sauce is fantastic and is key on that item. This is some sophisticated "pub food!" I'd definitely order both again, plus, both dishes came HOT out of the kitchen - and that makes a difference for me. We were pleasantly pleased with our whole experience at Durty Nellie's.
