The Scene – Step through the front door into another world: The multicolored carpet, red and dark-wood chairs, geometric-patterned curtains, and yellow and coffee-colored stucco walls aren't of this era. Crooner background music keeps you company as you dine; vintage musical instruments and sheet music line the walls next to photographs of old Chicago scenes (Oak Street Beach, Marshall Field's, Lake Shore Drive). – – The Food – The classics: Prime rib and steaks, scrod, and a handful of landlubber plates and fish specials. Entrees include salad, potato and…
Excellent customer service to accentuate the great steaks.

My husband and I had such a wonderful dinner on a Wednesday night/June 2007. From beginning to end, the food and service was excellent--everything was fresh and sauces were homemade. We came at 8:30PM, not knowing that the restaurant closes at 9PM. We were only 1 of 4 parties there and soon were the last ones left in the restaurant. We never felt that we were inconveniencing any staff--as a matter of fact, our waitress even came at the end of the meal (at almost 10PM) with complimentary sundaes when she found out it was our first time in the restaurant. I wish more places put more value into their service as these people exemplified. We will certainly be back!
- Pros: Very friendly service; very fresh flavorful food
- Cons: None!
Simply a Perfect Night Out

I know a perfect "ten" seems extreme, but our entire evening here for my birthday this year was flawless from beginning to end. They sat my husband and I in a romantic, private spot by the fire. The service was personal and impeccable. Our waitress had been doing her job there for many years and clearly loved it. The shrimp cocktail was the best -- icy cold, large shrimp with tangy cocktail sauce made from scratch. The spinning salad was quite a show, plus the anchovy and bleu cheese dressing (with more shrimp) was decadent. I have had a lot of prime rib in my life, but the slice I had here was the most wonderful I've ever had. (I ordered the petite/small, and it was still huge). The twice-baked potato and the chocolate flourless torte were heaven, and they even gave me a large red balloon for my birthday. :) We'll be going again next birthday, anniversary, whatever! The best!!!
- Pros: Great Food, Great Service, Classic and Romantic Ambience
- Cons: The only "con" is that I can't eat there every week! :)

This was our first dining experience at Don Roth's Blackhawk Restaurant. We can't say enough - in one word - superb!! Everything - the minute we stepped in the door - was extremely pleasing - the person who seated us, the background music, the atmosphere of yellow stucco walls with picture decorations of the past, the beverages, all the food from appetizers to desserts. The person who should be credited the most is our server - Lucian - is to be highly commended - very hospitable - thank you Lucian!!!!!
- Pros: Superb Service, Savory food, Atmosphere
