Editorial Review for Walker Bros Original Pancake House – by Peter Behle
The Scene
Surrounded by Tiffany-style stained glass windows and light fixtures, families and friends crowd wooden tables and booths. Everything is packed tight, so expect to get to know your neighbors. And it's loud, what with the tile floors.
The Food
On this menu, it's breakfast all day, every day. Favorites include the cinnamony baked apple pancake, plus other sweet fixes like chocolate chip or banana pancakes, crepes, French toast and Belgian waffles. Other options include oven-backed super-fluffy omelettes(the bacon and swiss is a definite winner) with a side of sausage (regular or chicken), or the quiche-like, veggie-laden Danish Garden. Note that hash browns must be ordered as a side dish--most items do, though, come with an order of three pancakes on the side.

Insider Tips
When to GoOn weekend mornings after 8:30am, the line can snake out the door, so get there early or plan to wait.
The ExtrasOther locations of the local chain include Arlington Heights, Glenview, Highland Park, Lake Zurich and Lincolnshire.
Look GoodIf you get the massive apple pancake (which is virtually an apple pie), expect a wait of at least 25-30 minutes.

I've been going here since I was a little girl. Over 15 years! They haven't changed their menu. Always good old fashioned breakfast food. You have to try the German Apple pancakes. There's usually a bit of a wait on the weekends but the turnover is quick. Highly recommend it if you're looking for a no frills classic breakfast place that's steps above diner food.
Pros: Consistent good breakfast food
Cons: Waits, but turnover is quick

Try to sneak in here anytime other than a weekend if you want the most amazing, bigger-than-your-head dutch pancakes (the puffy, volcano-like kind) you've ever had. You're already blowing the diet, so go ahead and get the apple -- you won't regret it. Only problem is this place is so popular that you just can't avoid an hour wait on the weekends (even when I got there once at 7:30am!).
Pros: great breakfast food
Cons: too popular, extremely long waits
