This Winnetka children's wear store has built a clientele that bridges the generation gap..
The Scene
It's hard to believe that Marion Michael has been around for more than 50 years--its look is as fresh as ever. From its ever-changing window treatments to its pastel-stenciled wood cabinets, Marion Michael has a clean, spring-day feel to it. The bonus is, there's no mall traffic to contend with--in Winnetka's central business district, plenty of diagonal spots make parking a snap.
The Goods
Owners Cecily Dunlap and Deborah Valentine can vouch for the store's longevity: As children, both were dressed here. Now they clothe 21st-century babies in moderate and upscale fashions from lines like Helena + Harry, Maxou, Monkey Wear, Wes & Willy, and Polo Ralph Lauren. Dunlap and Valentine offer a wide price range, with dresses selling from $23 to $115 (more for special occasion ensembles).
