In Short
Dick Portillo opened his first restaurant from a trailer with no running water in 1963 in Villa Park, Ill. Today, each location has a unique theme that reflects the founder's love of history and Chicago. Menu favorites include Chicago-style hot dogs (topped with mustard, relish, onions, tomatoes, pickle and sport peppers), Polish sausages, Italian beef sandwiches, salads, burgers and more. Sides include onion rings, fries, soup and for dessert there's chocolate cake, lemon cake or strawberry shortcake.

Portillo's has the best Italian beef sandwiches I have ever had! Their French fries are awesome, too. Another thing I love about Portillo's is the way they handle their Drive-Thru line during peak lunch and dinner hours. They keep things moving along very quickly. The food is more expensive than at similar restaurants, but it is well worth it. I also love the decor, which consists of lots of interesting Americana-type items.
