Editorial Review for Goldyburgers – by Jennifer Olvera
In Short
Don't be deterred by the restaurant's dark, smoky interior: The real magic happens in the kitchen. Namesake burgers are--without a doubt--where it's at. These half-pound mouthfuls are topped with lettuce, tomato, onion and pickles and can be souped up with blue cheese or bacon. Feeling famished? Go for the Big Daddy, a 3/4-pound belly buster. Fried shrimp, brats and chicken sandwiches provide sustenance too, although few regulars give anything else the time of day.

Insider Tips
The ExtrasLooking for a burger alternative? A fish fry is offered on Fridays for under $10.
What to DrinkA decent draft selection--Guinness, Harp, Killian's and Miller Lite--plus bottles like Rolling Rock are great for washing down burgers and all cost under $5. On Thursdays, Miller drafts are just $2.

I kept seeing all of these best burgers in Chicago lists and Goldy Burger was always near the top, so I had to try it. I went there mainly for the burger, not the atmosphere or to hang out and party. The burger seemed like something I would make at home for myself, there was nothing special about. Everything tasted like they just went to the local grocery store and bought ingredients for a basic hamburger. The bun was awful, I'm pretty sure it was a local store brand bun and it was very thin. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger and the bacon tasted like it was made a week prior. The bacon was so hard it poked through the thin bun and it was all I could do to tear it with my teeth. The hamburger patty itself was just a big ball of meat and yes it was round. There is no seasoning or anything special about it, just a ball of meat. This is pretty close to the worst burger I've had in the Chicago area and I could name 10 better burger places right off the top of my head.
Pros: Not too expensive, close to the train
Cons: Burger was pretty bad
