“First things first, the atmosphere in this restaurant is awesome!”
“There are pictures of firefighters all over the walls, and there are some great paintings hanging above the bar of fires and firemen.”
“The food was really good- not a huge selection, but pretty much anyone could find something they like.”

Don't eat here unless you like m1ce.. Horrible service. I was charged $15 for a drink, and then was told by the owner that "that's what happens when you order something that is not listed on the menu." And, the patio is 1nfested with m1ce. We saw 3 in the short time we were seated outside. One of them was large enough to carry a plastic cup in his mouth. Disgusting. Would not recommend for anyone. I only selected one star because I had to...should have been zero.
Good food, poor service!.
Our waitress was horrible. I sat there with empty water the entire time, I even drank my girlfriends water and it didn't get refilled either. The food was pretty good though, good chili and good sandwiches.
I guess my deciding factor would be if it is really an old firehouse or just a building made to look like one.
So-So.
Food is okay. Prices are reasonable. Pretty good service and atmosphere.
There's nothing really special about this place.
Oh yeah, don't get the steak. I thought it was very very average and somewhat overpriced.
Cool place. First things first, the atmosphere in this restaurant is awesome! There are pictures of firefighters all over the walls, and there are some great paintings hanging above the bar of fires and firemen. Service was great!! When we were sat in the wrong section (non smoking) the servers got us a new table right away and were very helpful. Throughout the meal we had at least 2 people asking us if we needed anything. They were prompt and friendly! The food was really good- not a huge selection, but pretty much anyone could find something they like. Parking lot was hard to get in and out of, but plenty of spaces. Didn't even see any kids in the restaurant. I got the lakeside mai tai and it was very weak, but no big deal! This really is a great place!!!
GOOD FOOD! HORRIBLE SERVICE!!!. I have gone to this restaurant for years, and the service has been steadily declining. I don't know what's happening, but I all but have to throw myself on the floor to get the servers' attention. REFILLS?? Unless it's a high-ticket item, forget about it! It's not going to happen. Are you waiting for someone to say, "How is the meal? Do you need anything else"? CHECK....PLEASE!!!! Maybe they can't hear you over all the screaming children running around the dining room. Sometimes I think I made a wrong turn and ended up at a Chuck E. Cheese. If good service and no children are your thing, you may want to go somewhere else. The food, however is very good. They offer unique and tasty weekly specials. Needless to say, I now limit my visits to this restaurant.
Located in an old Evanston fire station, this popular spot offers a menu of pub favorites..
In Short
At this upbeat joint next to the El tracks, the walls are crowded with fire-fighting equipment plus fire-themed paintings and murals. The bar and main room packs with local families and sports fans, who stay glued to several TVs scattered around the space. The menu offers plenty of bar food favorites: generous quesadillas, substantial BBQ steak salad, and juicy burgers served with a pile of fries. Kids enjoy the creamy, piping hot macaroni and cheese.
count on it being good.
Re: parking issue raised by "Tygergirl." Yes, there is a two car parking lot for disabled patrons right by the door of the restaurant, but the parking lot w/plenty of spaces w/a sign that clearly says "Firehouse Grill Parking" is right across from that by the train tracks!
If you have kids, this place is always full of them (always well behaved). If you go on a weekday evening, you can seat yourself in one of the huge booths that accomodate six people. If a weekend, the wait is usually no longer than 15 minutes. The food is original in its taste and presentation (you won't get a chocolate explosion that ever looks the same in presentation). I highly recommend the following: chips and salsa, hummus, chilli (vegetarian or original), the santa fe salad, and I've heard from carnivors that the burgers are the best--cooked as you like them. Enjoy!
Okay experience.
The food was okay. I got the ribs which weren't falling off the bone and a little dry for my taste. Their beer selection is on the eclectic side so it was fun trying out new brews.
It might've been better if I wasn't put off by the parking. I called and asked if there was parking. I was told that there was but when I got to the place, there was only a 2-car lot. Next time, I'll ask if there's a *big* parking lot.
Great, Great, Great. The atmosphere was fun, the service was great, the menu was original, as original as it could be for an "american" restaurant. You even got to keep the water glasses as "souvieneers". It wasn't too bad in the price dept. either. Try the spinach and artichoke dip!
