Of all the cupcakes in the city, these consistently rank in the top. Plus, cakes, cookies, bars, pies, and more.

Sweet Mandy B's sweets are a party in your mouth. And everyone in Chicago knows it.

The kid in all if us goes gangbusters @ this sugar shack. The mintrageous cookies are insane, cupcakes dreamy & key lime pie pucker-inducing
Completely Over-rated. There were 2 HAIRS on my containers. The bathroom was a disgusting mess at 12 in the afternoon, on a Saturday, and the place overall was not clean. The service was rude and terrible. The Chocolate Flourless cake was INCREDIBLY SALTY, it was evident it was a screw up. Chocolate is not to be salty. It was so salty it made your mouth pucker. GROSS. Everything in that place was disgusting and completely overrated. I am an avid baker myself of old-fashioned desserts, and this by far is not it. Would never go back
Gotta try the lemon curd. Twice now I have had the yellow cake with lemon curd and buttercream frosting and it's truly amazing. People at both parties could not stop talking about it. DO NOT pass up Sweet Mandy B's when ordering your next special occasion cake.
Heaven on earth. Being a choc-a-holic finding this jem was like the light shining down from above and a choir singing "ahhhh". That's how much I love this place. By far the classic brownie is the best thing I have tasted (and I have tried almost everything), a close second is the peanut butter blonde brownie, oh my goodness. I would not, and it pains me to say this, reccomend the chocolate chip cookie. It is really the only down side I can think of. For whatever reason they over-bake the cookie. Everytime. Perhaps that is because of I am of the school, the mushier the better, but a crunchy cookie from a fresh bakery? I expected more! But the decor is absolutely adorable and makes me happy just to be inside for a snack whenever I can. I even ordered and bought my own birthday cake here (clearly I have an addiction). Other great items to try: classic cupcake, red velvet cupcake, and dirt cake (pudding?). If you ever want a sweet treat find your way here, one way or another. It is pretty much always busy here, whether its noon on a sat or 6pm on a tuesday, so expect to wait a little - the line moves very quickly though.
Very yummy, lots of variety! Could use better employees.. Sweet Mandy B's is definitely a favorite of mine! The cupcakes are homemade and melt in your mouth. I haven't tasted any other item from here but they all look sooo good! A ton of variety with flavors and types of goodies. Everything from whoopie-pies to red velvet cupcakes. Cute set up too! My only problem is that I too had some issues with the service. The workers seemed a bit rude and unthoughtful, definitely not what you would expect from a cheery bakery. I ordered a latte and the employee seemed too busy to have it done in a timely fashion; my friend was finished with her cupcake before I returned to the table. I think the employees should get an attitude adjustment because they are tarnishing the reputation of a fine bakery.
Great wedding cupcakes!. Ordered 200 cupcakes of 4 flavors and had monograms on 100 of them and white non-pariels on the others. It was fantastic! We used the caterer's cupcake stand and that was our cake. Everyone still raves about them - we had the chocolate (with white frosting), yellow (with chocolate frosting), red velvet and orange dreamcicle (white frosting). I highly recommend this.......was 1/2 the cost of regular wedding cakes and so much more memorable!
Great Cupcakes, poor service!. My mom was in town from Indiana and I wanted her to experience great cupcakes and pastries at Sweet Mandy B's. We got there and the people behind the counter didn't know what they were doing and were very unpleasant. I was embarrassed for the staff. I understand that people have bad days, but don't take out your frustrations on customers. My mom placed quite a large order--cupcakes, halloween cookies, etc. We got home, and half the order wasn't in the bag. I just don't get it. I have been there in the past, and the service has always been poor. So I thought I would give them another chance. But now, I don't think I plan on going there anytime soon. If someone is going to work in a bakery, be personable and make the experience deliciously unforgettable, not disappointing.
Confetti cookies are good, but don't buy the cakes. Bad service!. I used to be a huge fan of Sweet Mandy B's, especially for their confetti cookie! It's a soft yummy sugar cookie with confetti sprinkles on top. However, I have noticed lately that the staff seems rushed and are often rude. Also, they don't seem to take orders well either. I ordered 2 birthday cakes in July, which were quit expensive totalling almost $60 for both. When we cut into the cakes they were both WRONG! One was supposed to be white cake with white frosting with strawberry filling and it was yellow cake with white frosting and NO strawberries (I even paid extra for the strawberries). The second cake was supposed to be chocolate cake with chocolate frosting and it was YELLOW cake with chocolate frosting! I mean come on! Did they only have yellow cake left?! The yellow cake was aweful. I've yet to go back and haven't even bothered telling them that the order was completely wrong.
Peanut Butter & Jelly Cake Best Cake/Cupcake in Chicago!.
You absolutely have to have the Peanut Butter and Jelly Cake!! I prefer it with white cake but if you like chocolate cake I'm sure that would be delicious just the same. It is hands down the best cake I've ever had and all my friends and family agree with me! I showcased this cake at my b-day party and it was a winner with everyone who had some. They all agreed it was the best cake they've ever had.
If you don't need a huge cake, they even make PB&J cupcakes! Those are equally as good. Though, since they don't make them all the time, and they are so popular, when they do make them, you better go early because they go very fast!
Definitely my favorite bakery in Chicago hands down!
GOOD CUPCAKES. Cupcakes are VERY good, and reasonably priced. Staff was friendly I plan on visiting again and trying other cupcake flavors and frostings! :)
Cupcakes worthy of the Magnolia comparison.
My friend and I (who are from Milwaukee) traveled to Chicago for her birthday yesterday. She would have loved to go to NYC's Magnolia bakery (featured on S*x and the City) for her birthday cupcake, but Chicago is where we were able to celebrate. And we don't do the whole Michigan Avenue thing in Chicago, we like exploring the lesser known areas (so much character, variety and elclectic boutiques).
I found Sweet Mandy B's on Citysearch the night before and we went there based on a reviewer's comparison of Sweet Mandy B's to Magnolia in NYC. We used public transportation to get there (Brown line to Armitage). We had trouble finding the bakery once we stepped off the El because we didn't know our directionals. Quite some time later after stopping a few times to get directions we found the bakery. It was FANTASTIC!
The staff was courteous, they were mostly busy preparing yummy goodies, but when we talked to them they were wonderfully warm and friendly. The cupcake was incredible (we thought about taking a bunch of cupcakes home to Milwaukee but decided against toting the precious cargo around for the rest of the day on the buses, Els and the Amtrak ride home), the ambiance was too cute, and the offerings were plentiful. There were many choices at Sweet Mandy B's that you just don't find in most bakeries. I chose to take a Smore in my purse to nosh on the train ride back to Miwaukee. I don't know how they made a Smore so transportable but it held up well in my purse the rest of the day and was a sweet end to a fun day.
