Excellent Bakery.
I have recently purchased a graduation and birthday cake and they were absolutely heavenly. I have tried there cupcakes as well and they are delicious, especially the coconut topping. In the past I have purchase my bakery from Whole Foods and while I do enjoy their fruit tarts, they will not have the rest of my business.
Sweet Mandy B's is a quaint little place with a great deal of business. I live in Hyde Park and it is worth the ride to Lincoln Park.

It's good. It's good. Cupcakes are decent. I pefer Molly's or Bleeding Heart bakery for their creativity though

SWEET is the key word.
It makes me really sad to give Sweet Mandy B's only two stars, because I've heard such great things. I was so excited to try the whoopie pie and caramel pecan clusters for the first time.
However, I'll admit that I was totally underwhelmed by the whoopie pie, it was just far too sweet for me. But to use a cliche breakup line: Dear whoopie pie, I think it's me, not you.
The whoopie pie consisted of two chocolate cakes with a ton of frosting sandwiched in between and topped with more chocolate frosting and colorful sprinkles. It reminded me of the bakery section at Jewel and I found the frosting to be too sickly sweet and the chocolate cake was a little on the dry side. I finished the entire thing, determined as I was to give it a fair shot, and I kept thinking that maybe I would start to like it better, that it would grow on me.
The pecan clusters were yummier, still insanely sweet, but in a smaller dose, so it was more bearable.
Sweet Mandy B's is a very classically American bakery, and it does what it does well. That is to say, it's heavy on the sugar, but for Americans who like twinkies and Betty Crocker brownies, I can see why it's heaven. I will venture to guess that I might have liked the whoopie pie a little better had it been refrigerated first.

Cupcakes and then some. Warm, welcoming bakery with glass counters full of sweets. We always end up buying 3 or 4 different things when we came in for 1 in particular.

Best dessert pies, cupcakes, cookies you name it anywhere in Chicago. Hands down best vanilla cupcakes anywhere in Chi town or all of U.S. for that matter. Pies are fantastic. Service is friendly and fast. I have hooked several of my friends on the tasty treats. Can't help but be in a a good mood while I'm there. Basically the best goodies ever!!!!

Overrated. I met some friends at Sweet Mandy B's for dessert. The location is good and parking was easy. After reading the reviews online I was excited to try it! I was completely under-whelmed. The inside was dingy and dumpy....needs a couple fresh coats of paint. The ambiance makes me wonder the level of cleanliness in the back. There was dried chocolate frosting smeared on our table and the back of the chairs felt crusty. On the upside, the dessert and coffee were good. Instead, I would recommend Bittersweet on Belmont. Much better dessert and decor!

SWEET MANDY B'S. Sweet Mandy B's is such a wonderful place, the service is AMAZING and all the people are so friendly and nice, I never have to wait and the food is so good. EVERYONE SHOULD GO TO SWEET MANDY B'S!!!!!

Favorite Bakery!. This place always perks me up! After a sub-par birthday dinning experience, we came here for the dessert. Once you step in this place, you feel like a kid again. This has the traditional bakery ambiance and charm. Pastel walls and glass cases full of indulgent treats. Personally I think the cookies are far better than the cupcakes, especially the molasses iced cookie...soft, moist and heavenly!

Horrible service. Totally overrated. Customer service is really poor. Twice I called to order a cake and noone ever called me back. Very disappointing. I wound up going to Bitter Sweet and I coudn't have been more pleased with their service and their delicious cake. In my opinion, Sweet Mandy B's is overrated.
