This a mexican restaurant that serves over priced not so good and certainly not great food. The restaurant is not any place I would want to go with a date or even solo. High prices on the menu would suggest a restaurant of higher caliber yet when you get in the place and sit down you see a restaurant lacking in so many aspects. Amazing thing is that the american people that I ate there with seemed to think it a good restaurant. I told them that they obviously haven't had great mexican food. My water smelled funny and I noticed food particles in it. I went into the bathroom and it looked like a gangbanger's paradise. They have tiles on the door for crying out loud probably to cover up the carvings. What decent restaurant pays such little attention to obvious details of cleanliness? I will never eat there again. The place should be shut down. I am not mexican but I have dated many mexican women and have mexican friends who know what real mexican food is about and I tell you this place is not on their list of restaurants to eat at. If you are even reading this comment and considering eating there I am truly sorry. I feel for you. If you are in to trying really good food, mexican is such a cliche these days, you should really try argentinian "N" on Elston Ave and Rockwell. It is an Argentinian restaurant that on Tuesdays has an excellent Brazilian band that plays and the steak there is a slice of heaven imported from South America. You will spend less there and will so much more enjoy the ambiance that Garcia's is so painfully lacking. Or Cafe Bolero that on Tuesday nights has wonderful Cuban food and music and mojitos that taste better now than they did before when the son ran the place. Or make it a night and go eat dinner at bolero's listen to music and then head over to "N" as the music ends at Bolero just as it begins at "N" Fabulous ambiance and caperinhas. It's no cover at both places. If you haven't done that yet then.....

You know, there isn't any good Mexican restaurants around where I live (let alone, one that's open late night) and I'm not talking about Taco Bell or Taco Burrito King. So, Garcia's is what I, and I bet other patrons, have to settle with. The very first time I came here years ago I wasn't very impressed with their food. They did have chips and salsa that they give you once you sit, but that was it. Although, on more recent visits, I did find that their nachos & quesadilla appitizer good and filling as well as their caldo de res (beef stew) which reminds me how my grandma would make hers (only less flavorful). Their enchaladas and flautas dishes were too much for me to handle and the filling was either too dry or "liquidy"; whether it was oil or water or both (or worse) that made it liquidy, I don't know. Their tacos were nothing special (just meat, lettuce and tomato on a soft corn tortilla (cheese, sour cream, and avocado cost extra per taco)) and their bar isn't well stocked (their margaritas were kiddie sized too). To me, if you can haul it to Fiesta Mexicana either in Uptown or Lincoln Park, go their instead. Save this place as a last resort or if you want to save some gas.
